Part of Marny Cardin's creative output over the last three decades

- a prize every time! It took our grandson longer to choose a prize (anything on the stall) than it did to hook his duck!

Taken candidly outside the world famous Red Iguana on Salt Lake City's West Side. He seemed like a nice man.

Bound manuscript of music by James Hook.

Page of music, from a volume of pieces by the organist and composer James Hook (1746-1827); the final item, "I know a thing or two", is probably in Hook's own handwriting.

My wife makes really cool jewelry and some recent favorites of mine are these fish hooks. They're sterling silver, cast from wax and hand polished and finished.

Someone has written the size "9mm" on this hook, but it is incorrect. This hook is made from a US stock dowel of some sort. In the US, dowels are found in inches while elsewhere in millimeters. This dowel is actually somewhere around 9.5mm in circumference, which hovers between a M and an N crochet hook size.

Another reason why this sizing is incorrect is because it reflects the size of the dowel that was begun with, not the end size of the actual head and throat of the hook. So here, only the handle is 9.5mm in circumference. The head is much smaller and shaved on the sides, which further alters the realistic size.

The Hook Lighthouse (also know as Hook Head Lighthouse), situated at the tip of the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford, in Ireland, is one of the oldest lighthouses in the world. Operated by the Commissioners of Irish Lights, the Irish Lighthouse Authority, the Hook marks the eastern entrance to Waterford Harbour

This solid brass coat hook comes from an "old federal building", according to the label on the back.

Being in Chicago, this likely means it originally hung somewhere in Henry Ives Cobb's Chicago Federal Building, demolished in 1965. I imagine dozens of them, lining the hallway of the judges' chambers... or in a cloak room off the lobby. Who knows.

I love the worn patina, the little voids and spots where the molten metal didn't quite fill, and the overall size and heft; it juts out 4" from the base, and stands nearly 5.5" tall. Feels like it's around a pound.

I hope to one day reproduce these in brass - maybe also a darkened bronze. It'd make a killer bathrobe hook, and I could even imagine a row of them, lined up on an exposed brick wall in a garage or barn.

It's a simple, utilitarian design that neither Melissa nor I have seen before. That's saying something, as we've looked at a lot of old hardware. At $25, we just couldn't pass up.
