A dawn scene from 5am this morning at the Hook Lighthouse. We made an early start to get over to the Hook for the Solstice sunrise and it was just beautiful.
Sculpted by wind, water and sun on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, this piece of driftwood reminded me of a spawning kokanee (sockeye) salmon. While Yellowstone Lake does not contain sockeye, it does support native cutthroat trout as well as an introduced population of lake trout, which are endangering the cutthroat. The National Park Service is engaged in an aggressive effort to remove lake trout from Yellowstone Lake.
…been a while since this carriage was pulled anywhere, another shot from our day at Enginuity at Ironbridge last weekend.

I was looking through some slightly older photos and decided this one deserved a look.

Hook Lighthouse is a medieval lighthouse off the south coast of County Wexford. It is thought to be one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world. When the lighthouse at Hook became fully automated in 1996, there was no longer any need for resident keepers. It was decided then to open it up to the public. The former keeper's houses now play host to the visitor centre.
The lighthouse was built in the 13th century and was a major feat of construction at that time. It has been helping sailors for roughly 800 years, apart from a short period in the 17th century when it closed.
It was William Marshal, the Earl of Pembrokeshire, who organised the building of the lighthouse. He wanted to offer his ships some navigational help as they made their way to Waterford Harbour.
A sign of old age.

It was quite nice at the Hook this afternoon but by evening you could sense the weather changing. The tide was rising and the swell and waves were growing as stormy winds began to sweep in from the south west.
Macro Monday's and the theme of "Hook".
I missed last week and after a busy day I thought I was going to miss this week as well.
Eventually I found these small hooks that are probably used for small tasks like hanging a picture frame. I decided to try setting them up in a circular setup and this is what I came up with.
I had considered a white or black background and eventually I decided to use a piece of wood that I keep in the car for mounting a jack if ever I need to change a tyre.
