2 Hook-billed Kites circling over Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas. 11/09/14.
The hanging plants have been placed indoors for the winter. With today's mild weather, the hooks still create interest in the backyard.
This poor baby's got a fishing hook in her leg. The pond in front of our house is a designated fishing pond, which means you can fish there if your buy a permit from the council.
I HATE it!!! First of all the fish hardly have any lips left, and what's left is infected because they are caught so many times. Second, the guys fishing here use the park as public bathroom and they pee in the bushes - it is disgusting! Third, the number of animals that have been hurt because people are lazy shits that do not mind their fishing gear, is rising every day. Last year one of the geese had its leg infected because there was fishing wire wound tightly around it, some idiot hooked it and tried to rail it onto the shore. I've seen herons fly off with long trails of fishing line and the hubby chased after several geese with fishing line on their feet so they could be freed from that. Now this duck's got a hook in her leg and she can't stand on it. I've been watching her and her boyfriend for a while now, they are always together. I took pictures of the leg with my 100-400 and sent it to the animal ambulance and I gave them a ring. Tomorrow morning they will try and catch her and remove the hook. It will be problematic as she can fly and swim. I can only imagine how much it hurts!
UPDATE: so the animal ambulance came today and I helped them look for the duck. She's always with her buddies but now only the buddies were around and this duck was nowhere to be seen. Probably hiding in the reeds somewhere. They will put my photos in the system so that when I see her and someone can come over immediately, they can try and catch her. Unfortunately there is a very big chance we will have to wait until she detoriates and is weak enough to be caught.
This seemed like a good idea at the time
Thought I'd have a little fun with photoshop and create different scenarios that make you wonder if this was a good idea or not.

Scenario #15: Hook em Horns
So last week Texas played Arizona State. This girl at the office went to Texas. I told her Arizona State was going to win so she suggested we bet on it.
The loser has to wear the uniform of the other team and we have to watch the game together.
Well, the game went into double overtime and Texas won. That's when she informed me that I'd be wearing a cheerleaders uniform and not a football jersey.
On Game Day, I showed up at her apartment and she had two Texas Cheerleader Uniforms laid out on the bed. One for me and one for her. The next thing I knew, she was applying makeup to my face and styling my hair.
And the uniform fit perfectly. When I looked in the mirror, i couldn't believe my eyes. That's when she informed me we're going to a bar to watch the game with her boyfriend and his friends.
Here's a pic of the two of us before heading out to the bar. How do I get myself into these things?
What could go wrong, right?

Hook Head Lighthouse, Co.Wexford, Ireland.
Operational for 800 years; one of the oldest continually-operated lighthouses in the world.
Hook Lighthouse is a unique example of an almost intact medieval lighthouse. It dates from the early 13th century and was a major feat at the time of its construction.
Here's my 6-wide hook and ladder with set 6340 Hook & Ladder. Set 6340 is special to me because it ended my LEGO "dark ages" -- I bought it on a whim in a tiny toy store in DC, and putting it together was so much fun that it got me back into LEGO.
