The hook on the gantry crane still hangs poised for action in that old factory in Carbondale, Pa.

Seems like you would not want to hang any real weight from it, however. Ot at least not be anywhere underneath if somebody else did. The place is pretty well rotted.

I love hooks, whenever I see one I have to capture it!

Hook Lighthouse is a unique example of an almost intact medieval lighthouse. It dates from the early 13th century and was a major feat at the time of its construction.

Purpose built as a lighthouse, it has served sailors and shipping for 800 years, apart from a short closure during the 17th century. It is thought to be one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world. When the Tower of Hook became fully automated in 1996 and no longer needed resident keepers, it was decided to celebrate its uniqueness by opening it to the public.

Hook Head Lighthouse at sunset

Taken on February 14th, 2008 in Sandy Hook, NJ. This is an old house that is on the site.

The Sandy Hook lighthouse can be seen in the distance. It is the oldest working lighthouse in the United States.

The Summer 1963 booklet issued by British Railways detailing train and ship services from the UK to Germany, by both Harwich - Hook of Holland and South Coast ports. It was one of a regular seasonal series of such booklets covering a wide range of Continental destinations and these editions have cover artwork commissioned from John Cort.

It is interesting to see details of journeys in 1963 such as one of my 'regular' trips to the Ruhr area which, from the North of England is now an over-night stay in London and Eurostar or flight to Amsterdam and onwards by train. These pages show that even quite now minor stations, such as Guide Bridge, in the outskirts of Manchester, had a through service to connect with the night silings of the Hook Continental and then though carriages to say Duisburg or Essen! This was of course via the now abandoned Woodhead Route between Manchester and Sheffield. Indeed, there have even been changes on the Dutch side of such a trip as Hook of Holland - Hoek van Holland is now a connection to the Rotterdam Metro! There were also complimentary services via Emmerich as well as this via Venlo.

Hook on the giant smoker.

My first latch-hook rug design. I adapted this design from a 1950s pulp western novel. All 100% wool, approximately 3.5 by 5 feet.

i chose this image specifically because i was interested in taking what is sort of perceived as a "granny craft" and making an absurdly masculine image with it.

In the deserted school, these coat hooks caught my eye. They still bear the names of the last children to use them.
