This is me taking out the dishwasher. I have never done this before and was surprised I pulled it off (or out, as it were). Thanks about.com! Unfortunately, water comes out the water line when we use the sink, even though the hot water is off. So our kitchen sink is currently off limits.

The evil '70s print, lurking beneath the bland '00s cover-up.

Pulling up the carpet where the partition is going to be. It looks okay here, but the living room is beyond repair.

Dad even used my router to smooth out the bottom of the legs. Not bad for its first use.

Painting sucks. But sarcastic commentary makes it fun!

Very Disappointing carpet install by Seastad's carpet in St. Paul. Gotta have them come back for a THIRD time to fix it...

Most of this jacked from Kevin and Helen's Wedding. They said I could. No really.

This is what we saw when we pulled the carpet off. Yellow dry crumbly stuff.

Sans panneling. Notice the big tree limb in the back yard. This fell on my fence after I had flooded my yard and broken the valve in my bathroom.

Hallway, after floor refinishing (day 1)

Cut across rip the saw and pry a bit with the flat bar and this is what you'll see. You can see that two of the nails held but the bar really didn't care. This will give me access to the floor that the jamb was covering. I wanted to sand and poly there as well.

The door is *not* framed with a 2x4. :( But it was nice to know that at least part of the bedroom wall is drywall instead of plaster.

Outside view of the house now that the leaves have been cleaned from in front of the wall. It'll look so nice once we get all the mold cleaned off the stone wall.

Can't believe what a huge difference it all made!

Carolyn put shingles on the room, painted house numbers in a nice font that she turned into a stencil, and she attached a flag.

This is what the office looked like before I started a major decluttering, which culminated in rearranging the room last week. Will be posting afters soon! The *only* reason I am willing to admit to this disaster is that it looks sooooo much better now!

Home Improvement Tip: Spruce up your ceilings.

One of a room's most neglected spaces, the ceiling, makes up one-sixth of a room's total area. Updating your home's ceilings will net a lot of bang for the buck while adding architectural interest. First, if you still have popcorn ceilings, hire a contractor to scrape them smooth. To add a sophisticated custom look to a smooth ceiling, install crown molding or box beams for a coffered look. Ceiling millwork, an attractive feature prevalent in older homes, is rarely found in newer construction. Adding small touches like these will help your home stand out from the pack.

Concrete and what is left of the glue used for the padding. We may have to call a professional. Also not sure what to do now. Painted concrete? Tile?

One of the frames being painted.

The striker side is pretty simple if the hinge side was done correctly. You basically put enough shims in each spot that the door shuts securely and without sticking. It's just some simple trial-and-error and then you nail.

Using pliers, I cut off the non-needed portions of the 'under-shelf rack'. This gives me some sturdy metal mesh to work with.

The yellow goes great with the kitchen as well, and it kinda ties the yellow, orange, and blue together.
