The original hardboard back panel was in a bad state and is unsuitable for holding the weight of the mainboard tray so it has been replaced with a very close-fitting ply rear panel. It is hinged at the bottom for easy access.

This hinged guard covers the gap between the upper door and the lower door.

I ran into problems with this one, as those with a sharp eye can probably see. I should have simply welded a piece of angle iron to the hinge, but instead created the angled piece from two pieces of flat stock because of a misinterpretation of the dimensions. The result was lots of heat which translates into warpage. Thankfully, that was resolved with careful bending, and the hinge moved freely once again. The angled piece was thicker than the hinge, and so created a fairing issue, which is somewhat visible.

Thank goodness for thick paint layers!

I had fabricated these brass hinges a few years back and knew I could apply them to different projects

Yes, these are different hinges - no, this was not exactly a planned renovation. We decided to "update" this hardware when the top hinge on the left side kitchen cupboard rusted apart. After several minutes debating the merits of each hinge style at the Home Depot we decided on this happy fellow a.k.a. H hinge with Antique Copper finish. Now all we have to do is replace all the hinges and touch up the paint....just in time for the end of my temporary retirement.

aaarrrggghhh, I'm melting.....

Having homemade hinges helps highlight how hugely... Shoot, I ran out of "H" words.

Our predecessors were definitely far more creative than the drive up to Home Depot that I traditionally make.
