Hinge on "prairie shed" door at museum in Rudyard, Montana

This is a single Magic-Cube consits of 12 individual Pyramids. Each one connected on two sides and carrying rare-earth magnets to help stabilize the major structures. A single Cube has 36 magnets. There are 5 major shapes that will „fall into place“, meaning the magnets will pull it together and no hinge is left flexible. As a toy the Cube posesses the challenge of a Riddle to unlock the different Shapes or to find the paths of shortest movement between them. As Art it can be left Standing, or with the supplied Wallmount, be displayed as a hanging Object. The beauty of this dissection, displayed in Numbers, are the different sidelengths of a Single Pyramid. Namely: One, Sqareroot of Two and Half Squareroot of Three.

This shows in more detail the construction of the hinge.

Initially I sitiched the hinges on to the waxed paper using the sewing machine, but thereafter I hand sewed the beads and threads to the wire and fabric.

The purple bead at the base is one I got from a French flea market many years ago and I just knew that it would come in handy some day.

The pattern of lichen on one of my neighbours' garage doors. Most of the garages in the compound have white metal up and over style doors, this plywood one is decaying rapidly.

In the first stroke of morning light,

a door creaks softly on its hinges.

The cool tiled mirror reflects

the last traces of sleep,

the mist of dreams upon the skin.

A bath – a beginning,

a cleansing of night and past.

The day's worn hands, aching back,

sweat from field, from factory, from human tide.

A shirt clings like a wax seal,

heavy with the weight of hours,

a witness to the body's toil.

But water falls,

like rain upon cracked earth,

washing away the city's pulse.

Each drop hums a quiet hymn:

"You have lived, you have fought,

now let go."

The bath before we step out,

before we don the mask of scent,

smooth palms,

tightened collar, softened cheek.

It is the threshold

from the intimate to the world,

from our raw, unguarded selves

to the shadow we cast in others' eyes.

Is it vanity –

or merely a gift of grace?

And then, the baths we share,

a child's laughter beneath the lathered hands,

a touch lifting

the small face,

pouring warmth over skin and skull

like a quiet blessing.

Lovers in mist and nearness,

low-lit glow,

words unspoken.

Water binding bodies

like a river

that never stops its journey.

But what is a bath?

A necessity, a luxury, a gesture?

In times when drops are counted,

when the earth sighs for rain,

water becomes a gift –

and we, the privileged,

let it slip through our fingers

without thought.

Yet in the stream of fleeting moments

the bath grants us

something rare:

a pause,

where the world dissolves,

and for a single breath,

we simply are.

Three Haikus

1.

Steam veils the mirror,

skin hums beneath falling streams—

a moment of hush.

2.

Laughter in warm waves,

tiny hands chasing the foam—

water holds us close.

3.

Day’s dust runs in swirls,

rivering back to the sea—

I am clean once more.

I shopped this photo around to all the Apple OEM parts suppliers I could find, but nobody seemed to be able to get me just the hinges in bulk. So I just ordered a dozen Chinese knockoff smart covers, and ripped them apart to get the hinges and magnets I needed. Turns out, it wasn't even very cost-ineffective.
