While taking this photo of a statue of Pope John Paul II, perhaps Krakow’s most famous son, a heavy accent told me to ‘get out of the way’. I would have put the lack of a please in the request down to linguistics but a look at the fellow’s demeanor suggested he was deadly serious. He and his friend wanted to take a photo with the statue and we were in the way. I also fear he may not have liked our behaviour around the late Pope’s statue, which while not in any way disrespectful might not have given him reason to think we hold the late Pope in the same reverence as he did. I always felt the late Pope gave off a friendly air, but when I start to think about it, this is based on purely superficial grounds. He looked friendly enough but certain facts belie this. He was fiercely conservative and led the church during a time of cover ups, when it hid and even facilitated scandalous abuse against its most vulnerable members. Ratzinger was every inch Karol Wojtyła’s man, he just didn’t have his charm and therefore a fraction of the adulation. Anyway, I wasn’t going to debate with these two heavy set young indoctrinates. I got out of the way.
I used to joke in college that this was my study style, who knew a 7 year old would take it up!!!
He did pass his reading quiz on the book......they did some star test on him and he reads 133 words a minute, I do not think I read that fast.....wonder what his sleep reading speed is???? lol

Elmer still hasn't gotten the message as he demonstrates here. I put him in the big cage (loaned from the Neighborhood Cats Trap Bank!) so I could get in with him to feed him and interact. He will sit on my lap to eat, assuming he likes the food enough. He will let me pet him, assuming he likes the food enough. He will play with the cat dancer and other toys but he is very wary of my hands. At first I thought his striking out at me was a bad sign but I understand now this means he is actually feeling more comfortable with me (he's not so scared of me he can't lash out, great). I'm worried but will keep working with him. My fear is he's all too comfortable with his big cage and hammocks, he isn't motivated to get tamer. I might have to move him to Elvis' small cage to see if that helps.
Oh well! We ran him all over town so this is all
I got of baby A today (the rest of the afternoon and night was spent nursing him, really! I think he is going to put on two pounds this week)...thank goodness for the mirror by the door,lol.
I wonder if he will inherit the cheesy grin gene?

Ran into him at the Imaging USA expo and showed him where the Lensbaby booth was. Got the right mount for my Lensbaby (they'd accidentally sold me a non-Canon mount in a Canon box, so they gladly exchanged it), and took a few first shots. Obviously I missed the sweet spot on this one. I think I ended up focusing on his right ear (frame left) instead of his right eye. Live and learn!

Buckland Abbey is a 700-year-old house in Buckland Monachorum, near Yelverton, Devon, England, noted for its connection with Sir Richard Grenville the Younger and Sir Francis Drake and presently in the ownership of the National Trust.
Buckland Abbey was originally a Cistercian abbey founded in 1278 by Amicia, Countess of Devon and was a daughter house of Quarr Abbey, on the Isle of Wight. It remained an abbey until the Dissolution of the Monasteries by King Henry VIII. In 1541 Henry sold Buckland to Sir Richard Grenville the Elder (Sewer of the Chamber to Henry VIII, Poet, Soldier, last Earl Marshall of Calais) who, working with his son Sir Roger Greynvile (Gentleman of the Privy Chamber Henry VIII, Captain of the ill fated Mary Rose), began to convert the abbey into a residence renaming it Buckland Greynvile.
Sir Roger died in 1545 when the Mary Rose heeled over in a sudden squall while the English Fleet was engaged with the French Fleet in the Narrow Sea off the Thames, leaving a son aged 3, also named Richard Grenville, who completed the conversion in 1575-76.
After being owned by the Family for 40 years, Sir Richard the Younger, sold Buckland Greynvile to two intermediaries in 1581, who unbeknownst to Greynvile, were working for Drake, whom he despised. The abbey is unusual in that the church was retained as the principal component of the new house whilst most of the remainder was demolished, which was a reversal of the normal outcome with this type of redevelopment.
Drake lived in the house for 15 years, as did many of his collateral descendants until 1946, when it was sold to a local landowner, Arthur Rodd, who presented the property to the National Trust in 1948.

A group of actors inside the Tower of London telling the story of characters from the Tower's past.
This reenactment focused on a former judge (the guy in the wig) who was accused of crimes of his own and this woman wanted him prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The Tower of London was started by William the Conqueror in the late 11th century as a watch tower and became a big palace/fortress by 1100.
It was expanded and developed over the next few hundred years and was used as a prison up until the Second World War.
Knight said that the murals reminded him of his very first public mural that he created at James Logan High School over thirty years ago. That mural was on cinder block as well and was approximately the same size as this series with similar subject matter.
"I had more than a few flashbacks to that mural and my high school days during the creation of this recent series." Knight said.
And so, he dedicated the murals were dedicated to his former High School Art Instructors, Liz Lyons Friedman and Missy Warhurst. Warhurst and Friedman unveiled the second mural in the series and also revealed the plaque that was attached to the mural.
Knight said of his former High School teachers: "Thanks for your great support, encouragement not only during high school, but throughout the years, including this unveiling. You have meant more to me than I could explain in words and your impact to me early was immense and I'm forever grateful."
