As Saturn climbs higher in the night sky, the clarity improves. With only a camera for imaging, it's amazing what can now be achieved. I'm off to New York state next week, where Saturn and Jupiter will be much higher in the sky...

On a warm May morning in 2013, the herd of goobs gathered along the NKP mainline for a 765 deadhead move were treated to an even better catch in the form of this ex-Southern GP38-2 leading L75 east towards Leipsic. After letting 234 go by them at Continental, the two EMD's split the NKP intermediates at Kieferville.
"Last judging I recieved third. I was expecting higher since I showed by far the most connection and chemistry with my male model but whatever, I'm still at the top and slaying. This week we had to do a beauty close-up and we had to think of everything ourselves - all the other girls were like, covering themselves in paint and crap like that and I thought they all looked freaking ridiculous so I decided to keep my shot classy and glitzy. I obviously rocked it as per usual!"
I'm sorry this is late! I actually found this theme really difficult even though it was only a beauty shot, I struggled thinking of a concept and eventually I ended up with this. I kinda went with a Beyonce/Glitz and Glam sort of shot.

The "Manchester Wheel" circles above the crowds. Higher still is the trail of an airplane. Both are real and reflected in Selfridges (I think) windows. This is one of the few images on my photostream that I conceived beforehand, but I hadn't planned for the airplane trail (which I think adds something to the overall result)
I took quite a few variants of this, each from a slightly diffferent perspective. It seemed obvious to angle it so the line of the glass split the image exactly in two down the centre, with the airplane trails nicely joining up. But in the final analysis I much preferred this offset version.
So Buttercup decided to do a drop in on the New dog bed and share it with Mr. Spock, even though there was an open bed right next to him.
The dark foreground are the hills of Tanay, then Laguna lake, interrupted by the peninsula of Angono, then returning to the rest of Laguna Lake, then Metro Manila with its skyline, then Manila Bay, then the mountains of Bataan peninsula.

Holt Lowes, Norfolk. On site this morning by 6.30 am to find the Skimmers roosting, still covered with dew. Soon found their favoured areas where at times up to six males could be seen from one crouched position. By 8.00am they were warm enough to become full of beans again! and set off for breakfast amongst the gorse and flowering Heather up on the higher slopes, now basking in hot morning sun. So I soon left for my breakfast...mission completed.

Had to take a comp there with these hanging branches. Liked this transition time as well with the colors in the higher overhead clouds.
Often seen in the backyard. These birds roam about in parties of six to ten birds usually always making a racket. Also often called the 'Seven sisters' for the same reason. They spend a lot of time on the ground or on low branches of plants looking for insects and fly off to higher branches of trees making squeaking sounds when they feel threatened. Very protective of each other and can gang up if any of the flock is in trouble.

Fanad Lighthouse, Co. Donegal, Ireland.
Fanad Lighthouse is an iconic working lighthouse at the mouth of Lough Swilly. The lighthouse was designed by George Halpin, one of the prominent civil engineers of the era. The light was first lit on Saint Patrick’s Day 1817, using sperm oil wick lamps and parabolic reflectors, showing red to the Atlantic and white to Lough Swilly. By the 1870s, investigations were being made into how the light at Fanad could be improved. The tower needed to be taller in order to be more visible from the Atlantic side. And so, a new, higher tower was built, and commenced operations on 1 September 1886. The tower is 22 metres high from foundation to the top of the tower (not including the lantern). The light is 39 metres above sea level and there are 76 steps in the tower – 59 spiral granite steps and 17 ladder steps.
