It turns out that when you climb up over the steep cliff above Fitzgerald Falls, there's this beautiful part of the forest along the rocky stream and a few more small waterfalls I'll show later on. Monroe, Orange County, New York

On the 3rd November 1948 RB-29A 44-61999 was being used for a flight from Scampton near Lincoln to Burtonwood near Warrington, a flight of less than a hour. Low cloud hung over much of England that day and as such the flight was to be conducted on instruments. After having flown for the time the crew believed it should have taken them to cross the hill they descended. However the aircraft was not quite passed the hills and struck the ground near Higher Shelf Stones and was destroyed by fire.
The aircraft was soon reported missing and the local authorities and nearby RAF Mountain Rescue Service team were alerted. At the time the MRT were on a training exercise in the Kinder Scout area, they made their way as quickly as possible to the southern side of Bleaklow to begin a search for the crash site. They arrived at the crash site at the around 16:30 finding that there had been no survivors and with light fading left the recovery of the crew until the following morning.
The aircraft had, for at least part of its existance, carried the name ‘Over Exposed‘, it got the name while being used by the 509th Composite Group to photograph atomic weapon tests as part of Operation Crossroads at Bikini Atoll during 1946. The aircraft may have still had this name at the time of the crash, however it was being flown by a completely different crew and was with a different unit.

While exploring the new Saint-Roch district in Montpellier, I was captivated by the architectural boldness of the Higher Roch residence, a remarkable creation by the Brenac & Gonzalez architects. I chose this worm's eye view to highlight the distinctive signature of this building: its helical structure that gracefully rises towards the sky. The composition reveals the harmonious marriage between the warm wood of the facades and the purity of the white arches that rhythm the ascension. What particularly drew me to this shot was how the architecture reinvents collective housing, transforming a residential building into urban sculpture. The soft light of this cloudy day perfectly emphasizes the textures and highlights this dialogue between contemporary design and natural materials.

Went to Nth Curl Curl this morning with Focus to shoot the pool. I've been here a few times, but have never shot it from the clifftop, Thanks to my matey Katey for the guided tour through scrub to the top...that was fun!!
This is a crop of a 16 minute exposure well before sunrise.
The EXIF data says 120sec but in the image before the crop, I had blended the 16 min image with a 120sec image. This cropped image is the 16 min part of that blended image. Hope you like "Higher Ground"...cheers, Mike

Two mud nests of cliff swallow birds under an overhanging rock in the Silent City of Rocks. Cassia County, Idaho.
Cliff Swallows zoom around in intricate aerial patterns to catch insects on the wing. When feeding in flocks with other species of swallows, they often stay higher in the air. They build mud nests in colonies on cliff ledges or under bridges, eaves, and culverts. Courtesy: All About Birds.Org
As Saturn climbs higher in the night sky, the clarity improves. With only a camera for imaging, it's amazing what can now be achieved. I'm off to New York state next week, where Saturn and Jupiter will be much higher in the sky...

This is a photo of the 'Lady in the Wind' formation. I particularly liked the wall to the right when shooting this. This was my 2nd time down here and I am just amazed at the wonder that meets the viewer around each and every turn.
But with each passing turn, the overcast skies grew darker and darker... and when heavy thunderstorms rolled in and rain streaks began to adorn the canyon walls, we had to evacuate this labyrinth for fear of flash flooding. The sound of booming thunder in this particular slot canyon was not something I enjoyed hearing. So it was off to higher ground, where we found ourselves at The Dam Bar and Grille for a pint, or two...

This shot from May 2010 shows 20363 in Albert Row in Swansea when setting off for Cardiff, with one of the company's Plaxton Paragon-bodied Volvo B12Ms allocated to National Express work emerging from nearby Wellington Street, Swansea was without a Bus Station at the time - the Quadrant Bus Station closed in June 2009 and the City Bus Station opened in December 2010 - which led to all bus and coach services being dispersed to the City's streets.
