1st May 1982 and 40 004 is one of the workings of the year as it deputised for a failed 47 459 into Paddington from Banbury on 1V18 the 08:25 from Birmingham New Street and then returned on 1M13, the 11:50 Paddington - Birmingham New Street
I was on the train from Reading to Coventry by which time, the grapevine had been working overtime and it resembled a railtour - gawd knows what any normals on the train thought was going on.

Ha! Ha! Of course you don’t. On the off chance you do, you my friend, need to get a real life!
Anyway, I had posted that shot up here on the ol’ Flickr a while back. It was winter and after dropping my son Joseph off in the Big Smoke (Toronto), I stopped off at the former CNE site, which is close by to where he lives. I froze my whatsits off whilst capturing the image on a cold night. Well, lo and behold, a number of months later, I get a Flickrmail from a media company in the city, requesting my permission to use the image in a mural that was to be created on the premises of the former CITY-TV building on Queen St. West (now Bell Media). Additionally, they were offering financial compensation. Well, I consulted my team of lawyers (”…all Harvard men”), checked with the accountants to see if this would push me over into a higher tax bracket (two movie references, if you’re counting) and finally asked the CFO for her opinion… “Hell ya man! Go for it! (…or something like that)” So, we fired off invoice number #1385 and waited.
A few weeks later the mural was done. So, gathering the clan for a viewing, we loaded up the Studebaker, headed off for the city with a hoop ‘n a holler, even enjoying a meal on the lavish stipend that was forked out. I snapped a couple of photos for posterity.
My fame in perpetuity… well, at least until they paint it over for a new mural, or rip the building down for expensive condos, or some punks come along with their spray cans and…

Within a mile or so, you can also find Little Ansty, Ansty Cross, Lower Ansty and even Ansty itself. Meanwhile within half a mile of Melcombe Bingham, there is Bingham's Melcombe!
There was a pair and some spares of Northern Flickers in Mill Lake Park while I was testing out my new lens. The male stayed higher up in the trees and the female searched for food in the debris at the base.

I don't have an exact date for this shot. It is July 1982, and I think taken during the strike that began on the 5th and lasted several weeks
Note the lines of brand new Class 317 EMUs stored in the background awaiting service on the newly electrified St Pancras - Bedford line. ISTR the strike was largely to do with flexible rostering and DOO (sounds familiar in 2017 - what goes around comes around)
Every day, it seems increasingly likely that Trump and many higher ranked officials colluded with Putin and Russian higher ranking officials in a way that would undermine the actions of previous presidencies and illegitimatize our entire election. Russia just broke a 30 year treaty signifying the end of the Cold War to launch a missile and a Russian spy ship last night was found close to the coast of Connecticut. Which leads me to wonder, how much do they know about America's National Security and what damage could they already do?
Now, don't get me wrong...I don't have anything against Russians themselves. I'm a big fan of Russian literature especially...but, I don't exactly love the idea of having a government that assassinates any opponents and makes domestic abuse legal when 40 women die a day in Russia at the hands of their spouses. I don't trust the Russian government to act in the best interest of their people (look what has happened also historically in Crimea, the Ukraine, Georgia, Chechnya) and definitely not in the best interest of America and I fear even an impending WWIII if this continues to escalate.
It seems a great deal of American conservative lawmakers would love that idea, though, considering there is a new anti-choice Oklahoma law describing a woman's body merely as a "host" for carrying male sperm and a new Arkansas law that allows rapists to demand and even sue their victims if they receive an abortion.
So, I guess we know which states we don't want to visit or live in, right girls?
Last but not least, ICE is still rounding up people based on merely being "suspicious" of them which gives them a great deal of leeway to basically round up whomever they feel like it. Americans are being held hostage by a president who has sold us out to the Russians and whose wife is costing us 1 million extra dollars a day because Melania Trump doesn't want to live in the white house but somehow it's the immigrants and refugees that are the problem....right, that makes total sense.
There is going to be a great deal of protesting today and many of the chains in Chicago are closed to allow their workers to march, which is heartening. I will be going to work myself but in my job I literally support in part some of the children of immigrants so I will be there in spirit and I will continue to love and care for their children and all children with special needs or different ability levels. I can't imagine being a child in this country right now.
When you feel life at crossroads, you need higher perspective view.

In 2005, First Cymru received 21 Plaxton Profile-bodied Volvo B7Rs (20354-74) with what proved to be troublesome wheelchair lifts fitted within their passenger entrances.
Seven (20357-63) were allocated to Swansea Ravenhill depot to upgrade "Shuttle" Service 100 (Swansea-Sarn-Cardiff), for which they received attractive vinyls and third party sponsored SuperRear adverts.
FirstGroup was keen to bring the Greyhound brand to the United Kingdom. However, an attempt to compete against National Express between the South Coast and London failed, and the decision was taken in 2010 to transfer four of the surplus Greyhound-liveried Irizar PB-bodied Scania K114EB4s (23315-8) to First Cymru to replace four of the remaining Volvos used on the X10. The surplus Volvos all then found a new home in East Scotland.
This shot from May 2010 shows 20363 in Albert Row in Swansea when setting off for Cardiff, with one of the company's Plaxton Paragon-bodied Volvo B12Ms allocated to National Express work emerging from nearby Wellington Street, Swansea was without a Bus Station at the time - the Quadrant Bus Station closed in June 2009 and the City Bus Station opened in December 2010 - which led to all bus and coach services being dispersed to the City's streets.
Higher New Bridge crosses the river Tamar just north of Launceston. The Tamar forms the historic border between Devon and Cornwall and for many years presented a serious obstacle for trade and travel. Now however there are 23 bridges across the river along with 2 viaducts and 4 ferries.
