Julian Pate (center), Director of the Michigan Engineering Zone (MEZ), helps a team plan a work schedule for its FIRST Robotics season at the MEZ in Detroit, MI on January 7, 2017.

The MEZ is an innovative space where Detroit students acquire knowledge and tools to propel themselves in higher education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The FIRST Robotics teams of Detroit high schools stand center stage at the MEZ.

Crews from Grimsby Fire, Niagara EMS, and Niagara Regional Police responded to Beamer Falls Conservation Area on the Bruce Trail for a report of a patient who had fallen a significant height over the edge of the escarpment. The patient was located by emergency workers, who repelled over the side of the escarpment, where they were unfortunately pronounced deceased. Police continue to investigate.

I hiked up Prairie Mountain a few hundred meters to a viewpoint to take some photos looking up the valley, but the light wasn't cooperating. Looking down at the river below I saw these nice shadows on an abandoned flood channel. The sun is very low this time of year (almost Solstice!) and the shadows are long.

Shot using a Fotodiox sliding back adaptor with my Toyo 45AX large format field camera and Canon EOS M3 sensor. 14 frames stitched in Photoshop and processed in ACR. 115 megapixels for this 16x9 cropped version. Shot at around f/19 with my Nikkor SW 210mm lens.

In the hi-res file you can’t quite count every spruce needle, but you can clearly see every individual twig and blade of grass sticking out of the snow and you can identify the type of animal tracks (even in the shade).

After shooting and editing these ultra high megapixel files it is difficult to go back to editing 12 to 24 megapixel files. I am always looking for more detail in my regular EOS M3 shots and iPhone photos look like postage stamps.
