It was high humidity during my visit to Lake Kawaguchi this time. Thus the clouds covered Mt. Fuji during the sunrise time. I used ND1000 filter to get the long exposure of drifting clouds.

Taipei is quite rainy and foggy these days. I just stayed at home to process more shots taken previously. Love this angle of viewing Taipei 101. The lights leads to the skyscraper.

I was very lucky of getting sea of clouds during the sunrise time with Mt. Fuji. This is the shot I have been dreaming of.

這趟去河口湖,就是肖想能拍張富士山雲海日出,果真運氣奇好,前一天有笠雲,第二天就出雲海,雖然沒能大燒,有點小紅,就很開心了。更有趣的是,當天此攝點只有我姊妹倆。

Typhoon is quite late this year. However the first typhoon is coming toward Taiwan. The visibility was very good these 2 days and I visited this shooting spot yesterday and today. The after glow and cityscape were really wonderful. Hope the typhoon will not cause too much damage to Taiwan.

With the rugged landscape ablaze in colour, a pair of Ontario Northland EMD SD40-2s guide Timmins (Kidd Mines) to Englehart train no. 308 through the community of Swastika, Ontario. The town of Swastika, with its name most unusual, was quite literally built on gold. Adopting its name from the Sanskrit good-luck symbol, the Swastika Gold Mine was staked in 1907 and the burgeoning town was flooded with prospectors, entrepreneurs and eventually, the railway. With fortunes lost and won and many a debt to pay, today, all that remains of the Swastika Gold Mine is a scar on the earth and the subject of local lore. The Gold Rush may have ended long ago, but ONR's handsomely painted EMDs and surrounding foliage do a fine job at keeping a little gold alive in the small town of Swastika.

Benefitting from typhoon #18's passing by Taiwan from the east coast, Taipei got great sunset yesterday. Since it will be visiting Japan tomorrow, do pray for Japan and hope it will not cause too much damage.

昨天台北原本的能見度一度達到50公里,爬上九五峰,上面竟然已經幾乎滿位,我搶到最後一個腳架位置。

希望18號颱風,不會對日本造成太大災害,今年大家都遇到太多個了。

Finland's national composer Jean Sibelius was born and grew up in Hämeenlinna. He never forgot his roots. As a young boy Sibelius especially loved the forest in Aulanko.

As a schoolboy in Hämeenlinna Sibelius used to roam in the forest with his violin at hand. Among the pines, spruces and rowanberry trees he felt at home and found inspiration to his music.

Sibelius’ creative and versatile mind cannot be separated from his strong identity with nature. The stunning landscapes around Sibelius’ hometown Hämeenlinna, the Vanaja lake and Aulanko park, and the gardens and the Kielomäki forest at Ainola enable the visitor to understand the link between nature and Sibelius’ music. This link remains in the way people analyze and listen to his music.

Sibelius’ connoisseurs have described his music as a romantic-heroic representation of the Finnish landscape. Several of his musical pieces were named after nature: Birch, Spruce and Waterdrops. In his music elements of nature seem to spring from lakes and forests: the ripple of the lake’s water and the breeze sweeps the branches of tall pines.

With Sibelius Finnish nature becomes music.

Known for his set of seven symphonies and compositions such as Finlandia, the Karelia Suite and Valse Triste, Jean Sibelius was and still is the most respected and best known Finnish composer of all time.

There has perhaps never been another composer who has so vividly and veraciously been able to capture the nature, history and myths of his own people in his notes. In addition, Sibelius’ music had a very significant role in the independence process of Finland.

Quarantine days - retouching old photos

The day before yesterday we climbed a minaret of a mosque at sunset. From the top you have a beautiful view of the rooftops of this part of the city. Who sees the man on one of the roofs and the flock of birds flying up?

I can't say you have a view on Delhi, because you only see a small part. Delhi is so big that a metro ride to the nearest neighbourhood takes a good hour.

Recently, I visited the Indian capital Delhi and booked a tour offered through AirBnB's platform. The guide was a sympathetic young Jain who was also well versed in mosques. He led us into this large mosque and climbed with us one of four turrets that bordered a large courtyard on which many people were bustling. I was lucky and was able to photograph a piece of the courtyard where there was only this one person.

a man on a staircase that moved. the walls were steel, reflecting a world he did not see. he held a bag; his shirt was white against the grey metal teeth of the steps. he was moving up, but the direction felt irrelevant. it was just movement, a small, human detail in a large, unfeeling machine. a moment of transit, already gone.

CPKC’s elegant Royal Canadian Pacific evokes a bygone era when rail travel was king, as its trio of handsomely adorned EMD FP9s lean into the curve beneath the towering rock cuts at Leanchoil, British Columbia. The rain-slicked foliage and rugged topography only heighten the drama of this striking scene.

West of Field, CPKC’s aptly named Mountain Subdivision is pushed south by Mt. King and Mt. Hunter, closely following the Kicking Horse River. While the river continues toward Wapta Falls before bending again, the railway makes a sharp 270-degree turn to the northwest, slicing through the mountainside at Leanchoil before rejoining the river on the other side. This dramatic redirection makes the location stand out as a distinct kink on the map.

Seen here at the start of its second subdivision of the day, train 31B was operating on a scenic circle tour of the Rockies, departing Calgary early in the morning and traveling to Fort Steele via Golden, where it made an overnight stop. The following day, the train departed Fort Steele and returned to Calgary via the Crowsnest Pass and Lethbridge. The consist featured 1401, 1900, 4107, a generator car, Mount Royal (73), N.R. Crump, Banffshire, Van Horne (77), Strathcona (83), Glacier, Selkirk, Major Rogers (103), Craigellachie, and Mount Stephen (74), making for an exceptionally photogenic train.

the pavement is a grid. a map of light and stone. shadows cut across it, long and sharp. geometry of absence. a figure walks in the upper left corner. small, almost insignificant. her shadow stretches before her, a dark arrow pointing the way. she follows it, across the illuminated squares.

the law is a simple thing. it is a series of white lines on a dark surface. a clear jurisdiction between light and shadow. you are either in compliance or in violation. but life is lived in the crossing. a single, elegant figure moving between the lines, obeying a set of rules that are entirely her own. the street does not judge. it only bears witness to her passage.

The towering peaks of Mount Rundle and striking hoodoo formations below come alive in a spectacular interplay of golden morning light and shadow as a pair of brand-new CPKC ET44ACs guide train no. 113 into the heart of Banff National Park. At 0724 hrs, the sun has just cleared the surrounding ridges, lifting the last stubborn shadows over the Laggan Subdivision to fully unveil this breathtaking alpine scene. Some might argue otherwise, but as far as I’m concerned, the 0400 alarm this morning was well worth it!
