Tell me not here, it needs not saying,
What tune the enchantress plays
In aftermaths of soft September
Or under blanching mays,
For she and I were long acquainted
And I knew all her ways.
On russet floors, by waters idle,
The pine lets fall its cone;
The cuckoo shouts all day at nothing
In leafy dells alone;
And traveller’s joy beguiles in autumn
Hearts that have lost their own.
On acres of the seeded grasses
The changing burnish heaves;
Or marshalled under moons of harvest
Stand still all night the sheaves;
Or beeches strip in storms for winter
And stain the wind with leaves.
Possess, as I possessed a season,
The countries I resign,
Where over elmy plains the highway
Would mount the hills and shine,
And full of shade the pillared forest
Would murmur and be mine.
For nature, heartless, witless nature,
Will neither care nor know
What stranger’s feet may find the meadow
And trespass there and go,
Nor ask amid the dews of morning
If they are mine or no.

Here are the beautiful new flowers of native Mojave Aster (Xylorhiza tortifolia var. tortifolia) in the Asteraceae plant family. If you look close, you can see little caterpillars (?) inside the flower on the right. I'm always surprised to find these flowers in the desert - especially in a drought year like this when little else is flowering. (Alabama Hills, Owens Valley, Inyo County, California, 11 May 2018)
.... hot weather! We've been waiting so long for it!

Macro Monday's sounds catchy, eh? To bad it's only Sunday. Anyway, time flies. Today went by so fast it was a big blur. By the time I got home I had a huge headache and fell asleep until only a few minutes ago. So, i here I upload a quick picture while I eat a hot (warm) pocket.
"The Barrier Test" on Test Track. For first timers this has to be a little scary. Gosh what I would do to be on it right now, I can hear the horn now!!

The Fireboat John J Harvey putting on a show to celebrating the arrival of the flotilla to Newburgh Harbor www.fireboat.org/index.asp. Please take a moment to look thru all the photos in the set. It is an historic moment for New York and the Hudson River Valley.
This year, New York honors the 400th anniversaries of the voyage of Captain Henry Hudson, who led (for the Dutch) the first European expedition to sail up the river that now bears his name, as well as the voyage of Samuel de Champlain, the first to discover the namesake lake. This year also marks the 200th anniversary of Robert Fulton’s maiden steamboat journey up the Hudson River. Communities from New York to the Canadian border are preparing events and projects to highlight New York’s rich history of exploration and discovery.
The Great River Day Flotilla is one of the signature events of the commemoration. The historic “flagships” are the Clearwater, the Half Moon (a replica of Henry Hudson’s 1609 vessel), the OnRust (a replica of a 17th Century Dutch yacht), the sloop Woody Guthrie, the Mystic Whaler, the Governor Cleveland (tugboat) and the John J. Harvey (fire boat). Along the way, they will be joined by a U.S. Coast Guard escort, an antique airplane escort and numerous modern day boats.
The voyage sets sail at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, June 6, from the Statue of Liberty. The first day will conclude in the Tarrytown/Nyack area of the river, and will feature a cannon welcome and fireworks. The flotilla will move upriver each day, culminating in Albany on Saturday, June 13.
Here is the complete 1988 merchandising guide. It contains color and vinyl selections, interior cloth and leather choices, option compatibility and recommendations, as well as technical and demographic information as they pertain to each model, except Allante.
Some scans of the vinyl/leather/cloth choices are a little blurred, as my scanner could not work with the non flat surface of the page.
Enjoy!

The wedge-tailed eagle (Aquila audax), sometimes known as the eaglehawk, is the largest bird of prey in Australia, and is also found in southern New Guinea, part of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. It has long, fairly broad wings, fully feathered legs, and an unmistakable wedge-shaped tail.
The wedge-tailed eagle is one of 12 species of large, predominantly dark-coloured booted eagles in the genus Aquila found worldwide. A large brown bird of prey, it has a wingspan up to 2.84 m (9 ft 4 in) and a length up to 1.06 m (3 ft 6 in).

This variety is generally known in horticulture where it supposedly originated as a natural seedling in a nursery at Chester, England in 1826 (Bean 1953; Elwes & Henry 1906; Pilger 1916; Wilson 1916) [ = cv. 'Adpressa'], and also considered occasionally wild (Krüssmann 1985), but others considered that it may have been native to China and Japan (Endlicher 1847; Koch 1873). Specimens from Japan and China that resemble this variety include an illustration for T. cuspidata in Siebold and Zuccarini (1870), a specimen I received from Phyton in Ithaca (identified by an unpublished name and reported from China), and a cultivar at the Secrest Arboretum. These are referred to T. umbraculifera var. microcarpa. [a synonym of T. cuspidata Siebold & Zucc. ?]
Perhaps the variation in T. canadensis var. adpressa represents various derived features from a former circumboreal species (T. tardiva clade), which may include T. chinensis in South Vietnam and in Sichuan (China).
