As opposed to the more abstract line drawings on BART, I really like these more-detailed and 3D drawings on the Metro.
In June, Christine and I took a ferry to Santander and drove down through northern Spain and Portugal to the Algarve where we met Christian and Stefan and their girlfriends Adela and Lara for a week at Dunas Dourados Beach Club near Vale do Lobo. Chris and I then drove back through Spain to Bilbao. We stayed at a number of fascinating and historic Paradores, Pousadas and hotels en route. This is one of a collection of photos that marked our trip.
Contemplatio mortis: Here one has to imagine a corpse in all the phases of its decomposition: stiff, then swollen up and rotting, then stripped of flesh with only the tendons left, then without either flesh or tendons, then as scattered bones, as bones heaped up and mixed with others, and finally as bones rotting away and as bones crumbled to dust.
With this, one has to comprehend: ”My body, too, has a like nature, so will it become, it cannot avoid coming this fate.”
These similes should awaken particularly vivid feelings without, however, arousing Hamlet-like reflections nor those of the Semitic minstrel with vanitas vanitatum.
The decay of the body, in all its crudity, is here considered as helpful to progress because, rather than depress the mind, it should awaken a detached consciousness capable of imagining with perfect calm and dispassion the fate of one’s own body after death. It is, once again, a matter of consolidating the sidereal, extra-samsaric element.
Should these meditations result in a feeling of pessimistic depression, of desolation, then they have been quite wrongly carried out.
They are performed correctly when they result in a state of mind where one can consider a disaster overtaking one’s body, and even physical death itself, as though another’s body were concerned.
This state may even transform itself into a force capable, in certain circumstances, of acting positively on the organism.
Thus the texts speak of a sick ascetic who recovered his strength and overcame his disease at the moment of understanding and apprehending the teaching about the perfect meditation on the body.
It is said: “If the body is ill, the mind shall not be ill — thus have you to train yourselves. The Ariya are not obsessed by the idea: 'I am materiality, materiality is mine, materiality is myself’, and for this reason they do not change when the material body changes and grows old, or when the same fate overtakes the other constituents which make up the personality.”

Mike comes down the steps on his rear end in the morning, so today Augie came bounding up the steps and planted himself right beside Mike as he paused at the landing. Augie seemed to say "Stick by me, Dad, I'll help ya down!" I had to run and get the camera! He's such a great dog. He seems to wonder what's going on, with Mike home all day and not taking him out for walks, or playing with him like he used to. They'll play and walk together again - in 4 or 5 months!
I spent five euro a month with Life360, a helpful family tracking app that saved me embarrassment when in Philadelphia a few years ago. I used it primarily to see where our car was located but it got expensive and it's not as accurate as a pure GPS tracker.
Vodafone offers V-Auto for a 60 euro fee with three euro a month paid to track you. The V-Auto dongle plugs into your car's ODB-11 or OBD2 port. It can remind you where you parked. It tracks journeys and trip times. It will tell whoever you program that you've been in a crash. And V-Auto will critique your driving, sending you a safety score based on how smoothly you proceed.
I think I'll get one just to see if I outscore my wife.
If you can see this sign (at Oak Grove station on the Orange Line), you are either facing the escalator or coming down the stairs beside it. Which means the sign is pretty much useless -- not to mention ungrammatical with that "s" on the end, since this is the only escalator to be directed to.

Ryan S. is very helpful at Everyday Music on Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR
For PDX Squared 2013, I was assigned a map square between 16th and 20th, just north of Sandy Blvd. My task was to document that square in 18 hours and then submit photos to live judging. I could've tried to enter the single photo competitions for things like "Documentary Photo," "Fine Art/Abstract Photo," "Portrait," or "Urban Landscape." Instead I went for the "Series" Category and tried to tell a story in 5 photos or less of the Everyday Music record store that has been there forever and is a Portland institution. This is what I came up with.
I came in 3rd place, with "Honorable Mention" status.
I'm happy with that.

There are quite a few things you can use for crafting. Paper items that are usually disposable work great. You can use spent paper towel and toilet paper rolls too. Remember that doing arts and crafts, especially with children, will be messy. If you don't like messes, use newspaper to cover the area. Washable adhesives and markers are some other options.
Concentrate on just one thing. It can be tempting to do various projects and start on all kinds of crafts in this hobby. However, that leaves things unfinished. Take the time to complete one thing before moving on. This will better your chances of finishing.
Crafting is fun with kids. The perfect examples inhibit their imagination and hold them up to a standard. You want to focus on them being creative instead. For instance, who is to say they cannot glue an eye where a nose should be? Their imagination is important.

There was actually two people directing traffic since the blackout took out the traffic lights but the woman on the right walked into my shot and blocked the girl on the other side of University. I wanted to try to get another shot of the two of them directing traffic (they were doing a really good job of it) but a police officer came along and told them to stop.
Strangely, he did not take over at this very busy intersection. wth?!
On a cash-machine which charges a ludicrous £1.85 per transaction.
Taken with Panasonic 20mm f1.7 lens on Panasonic GX7.
This shot was edited for a Dear Friend that took time to give me some helpful pointers that will hopefully tweak my photography a bit...
