Grackles built a nest on the platform right under the Osprey's nest this season. They obviously have babies there as I observed them coming with food and cleaning their nest (disposing fecal sacs into the water). Being so busy didn't stop them from harassing the Ospreys between the trips. Ospreys are very busy too. They have three babies in their nest and they don't have time for a feud.

troy died. see previous entries with pictures of him for the story.
and then my 15 year old cousin brian violently took his own life three months later. i had barely started to grieve troy's death - in fact, the last time i saw brian, i was still so in mourning over troy, i barely paid him any attention. i slept when i could have been spending time with him. and now he's gone.
words cannot describe the dark place to which i have gone. nothing gives me joy anymore.
this photo was one i was setting up for my film camera for my photography class. i decided to upload it since i haven't been really taking any pictures in awhile. i'm going to try to start utilizing my photography as a means of self-expression once again. i'm afraid of what will happen if i don't find a way out of this dark place.

Okay I have no clue how many of you even will look at this photo since I haven't been on or uploaded to Flickr in months and months and like over a year :P But I would really appreciate your help! I finally started a wedding and portrait photography business and made a page on facebook. Apparently facebook doesn't allow you to suggest to friends anymore? Or maybe it's glitching, either way I don't want to look like an idiot with only like...10 people liking my page so if you could head over to facebook and "Like" "Sarah Jean Photography" I would REALLY appreciate it! Remember:

Our shared narratives as Americans are preserved through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. On Saturday, May 14, 2016, the Jay Heritage Center (JHC) held its second John Jay Medal Dinner and recognized two individuals whose exemplary efforts have helped elevate and strengthen the legacy of native New Yorker, John Jay.
JHC's first honoree was Prof. Joseph J. Ellis, one of our nation's leading historians and the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Founding Brothers: the Revolutionary Generation. Ellis' exhaustive and illuminating research for his newest book The Quartet: Orchestrating the Second American Revolution 1783-1789 restores John Jay to the pantheon of nation-builders alongside Washington, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. JHC's second honoree was Prof. Nicholas A. Robinson, a founder of the Pace Environmental Law School newly renamed for the tireless environmentalist and philanthropist Elisabeth Haub. Robinson, together with JHC's original founders, helped preserve and landmark the 23 acre Jay Estate on Long Island Sound in 1993. Today this touchstone in Jay's life is protected parkland and a must see destination on New York State's Path Through History.
Warm weather rewarded 125 dinner attendees including many Jay descendants and the editors of The Selected Papers of John Jay at Columbia University. An appreciative crowd enjoyed cocktails on the veranda and toured the landscape. They viewed rare manuscripts and artwork including a 1786 drawing of Spain's flag generously donated by Mrs. Paul Hughes and her family. Afterwards Prof. Ellis gave a mesmerizing talk about John Jay's peacemaking skills and his pivotal role in shaping our new nation's foreign policy with Britain, France and particularly Spain.
According to Ellis "[Jay] is the greatest diplomat of the revolutionary generation." Both honorees received standing ovations.
Samuel W. Croll III, Prof. Shelby D. Green, Charlene Laughlin and Thomas R. Mercein were Dinner Co-Chairs. Previous Jay Medal honorees were Catherine "Kitty" Aresty and Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel.

A: I'm all ready to help out Japan. These are set to go.
S!: Wow, what a stash! You've got everything there but the kitchen sink.
A: Oh, thanks for reminding me. Laudree went to pick the white Re-ment sink.
S!: You seriously got THE white Re-ment sink?! That's excellent. It'll really help out our cause.
A: Yes, now can you help me up? I've been here for hours.

As you may recall, I'm the editor of Everywhere, a user-generated travel magazine. The next issue of Everywhere will include a 14-page feature about travel to San Francisco, and I need your help to make it fabulous.
The package will be a collection of articles, photos, and tips about how to enjoy San Francisco like the locals do. What neighborhoods, stores, restaurants, bars, or events do you put on your must-see list? The quirky, the offbeat, and the unexpected are most welcome. SF's best places to hide on a foggy day? A visitor's guide to understanding Frank Chu? The battle of the best burritos? The city's most under-explored neighborhoods?
Submissions can be as simple as a single photo (with caption, please), or you can add a place to our local guide map, or you can get your prose on and write an article. If you've ever wanted to get published as a travel writer or photographer, here's your chance. Just create a free account at www.everywheremag.com/, and contribute away. Any questions? Just ask.
The deadline for submissions is August 28, 2008.

Horses Help Heroes: This challenge is for a team of wounded servicemen and their support crew, to drive a horse-drawn replica WW1 ambulance, 1,000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats, travelling non-stop, 24 hours a day, to raise £1 million for Help for Heroes to support wounded servicemen and women.
Here their replica WW1 ambulance tours the arena at Badminton. The most notable difference between this vehicle and the original is the hydraulic disc brakes.
De Helper is a water pumping windmill. It was built in 1863, dismantled in 1969 and rebuilt in 1971. In the distance, hundreds of ice skaters can be seen taking part in an ice skating tour, over a 10km circuit.

I need help. I am having total knee replacement surgery on Tuesday, and will be laid up for about a month. I thought I would perhaps try to mosaic a portrait while healing. This is one of my favourite pics of Nicole, and then my attempt at a sketch. It sure does not look like the photo. Someone please tell me HONESTLY where I have gone wrong. This just does not look like her. Her eyes and her mouth are the essence of her . . and I have missed them both.
espite returning as a hero after beating Brandon Rios over the weekend, Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao has said he has no money to keep his promise to help typhoon victims because his bank accounts have been frozen by bank authorities.
The Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue says Pacquiao hasn't proved he paid taxes in 2008-2009, and says he owes 2.2 billion pesos ($50m) in back taxes as of July.
Pacquiao, the wealthiest member of the Philippine Congress, said on Tuesday he borrowed more than 1 million pesos ($22,700) to buy relief supplies before his fight on Sunday with Rios in Macau, and will borrow more to keep his word to typhoon victims. Pacquiao said he plans to provide aid to more than 10,000 families.
Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest typhoons on record, ploughed through the central Philippines in October, killing more than 5,200 people and destroying entire towns.
'Not a thief'
Pacquiao said he paid taxes in the United States following his victories against Ricky Hatton and Oscar de la Hoya and that a treaty prevents double taxation. A criminal case was dropped by prosecutors for alleged unpaid taxes in 2010, but the revenue authorities' tax claims for the 2008-2009 are still pending.
"I appeal to them to remove the garnishment so that I can move and pay for my staff's salaries," Pacquiao said in his southern hometown of General Santos city. "I am not a criminal or a thief."
