Pied Flycatcher (M) - Ficedula hypoleuca
The European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family. One of the four species of Western Palearctic black-and-white flycatchers, it hybridizes to a limited extent with the collared flycatcher. It breeds in most of Europe and western Asia.
It is migratory, wintering mainly in tropical Africa.
It usually builds its nests in holes on oak trees. This species practices polygyny, usually bigamy, with the male travelling large distances to acquire a second mate. The male will mate with the secondary female and then return to the primary female in order to help with aspects of child rearing, such as feeding.
The European pied flycatcher is mainly insectivorous, although its diet also includes other arthropods. This species commonly feeds on spiders, ants, bees and similar prey.
The European pied flycatcher predominately practices a mixed mating system of monogamy and polygyny. Their mating system has also been described as successive polygyny. Within the latter system, the males leave their home territory once their primary mates lays their first eggs. Males then create a second territory, presumably in order to attract a secondary female to breed. Even when they succeed at acquiring a second mate, the males typically return to the first female to exclusively provide for her and her offspring.
Males will sometimes care for both mates if the nests of the primary and secondary female are close together. The male may also care for both mates once the offspring of the primary female have fledged. The male bird usually does not exceed two mates, practicing bigamy. Only two cases of trigyny had been observed.

Herring Gull at Girvan Harbour, yesterday.
I had the feeling that she expected to be fed...And she was being shadowed by her yearling , so must still be feeding the youngster. After a few minutes of strutting around, yapping, she eventually let out the iconic gull “rammy”. I was sorry I didn’t have any dead fish on me. 😄

This picture is like my feeling in the long times of COVID-19 lockdowns. Isolated and and a unsharp piece in a big see of loneliness and sadness.
Question for all you photography buffs. We’re going to Rome for a few days in March and I was thinking about getting a Wide angle lens. 10-24mm. Not sure if its worth it or if my 18-105 will be good enough. What’s your opinions on it? Will be back laters for a catch up. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL TOO ☺️xx

My cat, Mr. Purry Furry, is getting to be quite an old gentleman now, but he still "works" with me in the garden. He prefers a supervisory role to "hands on" :) He is a very pleasant companion!

A set of MRL Helpers attached to the rear of a BNSF Manifest train departs Helena, MT. The helpers would be unhooked at Elliston, MT after negotiating Mullen Pass.
Southern Pacific SD40M-2s No. 8685 and 8648 are point helpers, leading a 75-car Roper to Grand Junction Forwarder along the Mapleton Bench near Spanish Fork, Utah the morning of Feb. 19, 1995. The flared and speed lettered MK rebuilds will cut off the ROGJF at Soldier Summit.
On Sunday afternoon I heard some grumpy chirping in my mum's garden:
" Turn your world upside down, they said ... Performing a handstand improves concentration, they said ... But no one has told me how to get out of this posture again ... Help, please ?? "
And there it was: a tiny critter on a Colza blossom (a very young dark bush-cricket, I think - about 5 to 7 mm small), performing some kind of handstand yoga posture ...
It was finally able to get upright again - it was gone some minutes later : ))

Please help me identify the two birds in picture is it common redshank, marsh sandpiper, green sandpiper, wood sandpiper as all these are quite similar. Any help will be highly appreciated. Shot on 26 September 2020 in Kharar, Punjab, India.
Normally a trickle, this little creek seems to have really taken off with the recent rains.
Taken with a nice old Zeiss Jenna manual lens.
