Of the finch family, Chestnut-breasted mannikin is a highly sociable species, flocking in large numbers outside the breeding season. Breeding birds will join groups or flocks when foraging...here is one in my garden.
Dear Friends, thank you for all your welcoming comments and faves, I have missed you all.

Well hello down there. This place where the Sora comes every year to mate has a boardwalk over the water. I was hoping that I would find it further away for a nice profile shot. It passed right under me. Beggars can't be choosy. Dixon Meadow Preserve, Lafayette Hill PA.
Whenever I visit the dahlia show, I have a look at the Kunekune Pigs which live on a farm in the same park. This is the male and when he saw me, he came over to say hello. I think he wanted to show me the salad he had for breakfast ....
He still turns up once a day and looks through our window to see if our cat will come out and play.
Taken with my old 4/3 50-200, still a really good lens.

Hello everyone! I had good intentions of sharing this image the 1st day of spring; however, my life has been turned upside down lately.
About a week and a half ago, I was at work and I got a call telling me that my husband Gary was injured badly while at work. He had fallen off a 10 ft ladder and had hit his head and back. Thankfully his head is okay, but his back did not fair out as well. He broke 4 vertebrae (bursting one of them) and he required surgery to repair and stabilize his spine. The surgeon did a spinal decompression and fusion from his T10 vertebrae down to his L3. He did have numbness of his legs (likely caused by the shattered bone fragments touching his spinal cord) but the decompression corrected that.
This accident has certainly been a wake up call. Life is so fragile and not to be taken for granted. His situation could have been so much worse, and I am very thankful it wasn't, even though this has been hard on both of us. I have been stressed and exhausted. While my stress is subsiding, the exhaustion will be there for awhile as more of my time will be taken up to getting things done. My teenage son has been doing alot of the "Dad" jobs at the farm while I have been taking on more at home and once the weather gets warmer I will be busier outside. The outpouring of love and support from our friends and family have been wonderful. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing support system. Gary is home now and is slowly getting better. It will be a long journey for him as he will be off work for several weeks, maybe months, and that will be very hard for him as he is a very active person who can't sit still. We have come to the conclusion that our farming will need to take a sideline this year and we will rent out the land. Those things are not as important as the recovery will be and he knows he needs to focus on that and get his strength back so he get back to what he was like before the accident and doing the activities that he likes doing.
I may not be as active on Flickr but I will be around here and there. Photography is an outlet for me. This image was taken a few weeks ago when I was working on a previous photo challenge. We aren't getting much Spring weather today (more cold temperatures and snow squalls) but we will get there...
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe and healthy! I look forward to visiting your streams and seeing what you've been sharing. :)
McCullough Peaks Mustangs
One of the stallions in this band of wild horses. I had a thrilling experience with them and will post more of the story on a later upload.
We are finally (MOSTLY) moved to the new house. I will be glad to finish and get things unpacked. Maybe by the autumn?? :-)
