A Beautiful weekend Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon.
Enjoyed a beautiful weekend along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway between the towns of Baker City and Halfway, with beautiful blue skies and amazing views of the Wallowa Mountains along the way including a stop at the Halfway Farmers Market, and some time exploring the town of halfway and surrounding century farms.
The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with Interstate 84 at Baker City and La Grande. During the fall the byway is an ideal route for exploring the regions fall foliage and autumn splendor with some great wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.
The byway is a popular destination for group tours and offers visitors a chance to experience small town Americana in small towns like Halfway, as they explore the rugged and spectacular Northeast Oregon landscape along the way.
Hwy 86 between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam at the bottom of the canyon is open year round providing visitors access to the deepest river gorge in North America.

Nosy Be is an island off the northwest coast of Madagascar. Nosy Be is Madagascar's largest and busiest tourist resort. It has an area of 320.02 km2, and its population was 109,465 according to the provisional results of the 2018 Census.
Nosy Be means "big island" in the Malagasy language. The island was called Assada during the early colonial era of the 17th century. Nosy Be has been given several nicknames over the centuries, including "Nosy Manitra" (the scented island).
The first human inhabitants of Nosy Be were small bands of Antankarana and Zafinofotsy, before the Sakalava people migrated there and became the most numerous ethnic group on the island. These people were joined later by some Comorians, Indians or Antandroy. Nosy Be made first major appearance in Madagascar's history when King Radama I announced that he intended to conquer the whole west of Madagascar. That plan was eventually achieved in 1837 when the Sakalava Kingdom of Boina came into the possession of Ranavalona I upon the defeat of Queen Tsiomeko's army.
The French colonized the island from 1840, founding an outpost named Hell-Ville (from French Admiral de Hell). The 1848 abolition of slavery in the French colonies resulted in a revolt against the French by the Sakalava people, who were extensively involved in the slave trade. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the island was governed by the French as an internal protectorate within the colony of Madagascar. The outpost became an important trade harbor in the Mozambique channel. During the nineteenth century, the French settlers developed cash crop agriculture (mainly sugar cane) and recruited indentured laborers from East Africa. Though it was difficult for the French to control the littoral, they founded a plantation colony in Nosy Be, mainly producing sugar and cash crops. The French used both military force and diplomacy to maintain their position in the island, appointing the former ruler of Nosy Be Binao as the gouverneur principal of the island.
During the Russo-Japanese War Nosy Be became a supply station for Russia's Second Pacific Squadron. The main fleet led by Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky reached Nosy Be on January 9, 1905, where it met a smaller detachment led by Admiral Dmitry von Fölkersam that had arrived already on December 28, 1904. The fleet stayed for two months for refurbishing and coaling, leaving on March 17 to meet its fate ten weeks later at the Battle of Tsushima.
This is the third post in my Halloween mini-series. (This was taken at The Shivering Labyrinth at Fuji Q Highland).
Japan has an extensive list of disturbing urban legends and haunted spots. And the area around Fuji is no exception. I ain't no urban explorer so I'm not headed in there, especially since people are still reported missing around here about a century after Jikyu Hospital's official closure.
The perimeter of this place is massive. It's a 3 story labyrinth of decaying architecture. The owners insist on leaving the gate open for whatever reason, and kept babblin' on about something called Meido. Meido apparently is basically the doorstep of hell. Even as a religious man, I'm going to say he's right cause something is so unnerving about this spot that no light could ever penetrate it. Of all the stories I've heard, the most believable is the one with shown evidence: The staff started organ trafficking their patients, as well as other unethical practices and eventually got caught. But as said earlier, people are still going missing, and locals still report hearing or seeing things in and around this area, some talking about the patients becoming yureis (vengeful spirits), and some more recent hospital records reporting mental instabilities manifesting around this area.
There are two reasons why I didn't enter the place. 1. There's a strict no camera rule from the groundskeeper, wasn't about to protest that. and 2. It's an additional entrance fee, the only reason I was in the area was because I could be here for free. And that's totally all the reasons why, I've been to haunts in the US and am used to monsters jumping in my face. But compared to the "up close and personal" experiences I've done before, this was described as a slower burn, more psychological (maybe because it's an institution). So I took the shot outside the property as the last hint of light was diminishing. Odd, that grain shouldn't have been there, makes the image more heavy then it probably deserved to be.
There have been rumors that tours will be available soon which I seriously hope does NOT pass. Whatever, or whoever, is being held here, it's not human, at least not anymore. The groundskeeper says all the bodies were recovered so the hauntings have stopped, but I could see the fear in his eyes, it's the same one I saw myself, this place is as far from God as it possibly could be, and the residents here have known nothing but pain and hatred, eager to bring it out on any living soul stupid enough to approach this hell on earth.

Bumpass Hell is a hydrothermal area with sulphur pools in the Lassen Volcanic National Park in California.

The Boca do Inferno is an interesting cliff formation close to Cascais, which has been given an overly dramatic name of Hell’s Mouth. The ceaseless pounding of the Atlantic Ocean on the cliffs chiselled out a small cave, which subsequently collapsed forming a small bay and natural arch.
