...the Triborough bridge in the background really helps light up the Hell's Gate train bridge. You'd wish they made the bridge itself light up in some interesting color. The shape is beautiful and would give great photos. If only...

...purple or green would work well, but I'd settle for light blue or red.

I wandered down onto some rocks to take this. Sadly I think the focus was on the water so if you see this big it is not perfect.

...I am also getting lazy and shooting ISO 200 some. However, sometimes it is better to get more shots and better exposures than a few quality ISO 100 shots. Another shortcut is to lower aperture to reduce the shutter speed. It is better to stay below f/8 for this shot.

Be patient. Be patient. Photography is perfection, but in a place with NYC there are SO SO many great places and angles. It is overwhelming really...

This is by far the scariest movie I had ever seen. It has scared me all the way from the age of 5 up until 25 years later when I finally decided to face my fears and watch it alone...at night...with the lights off.

Rockin' poster designed by Justin Kite at Killer Kite. An interesting side note: These posters were printed on the back of old Pabst Blue Ribbon boxes. Creative Recycling!

Paris-Roubaix was playing on big screens and little screen at the pub

Supposedly of very ancient origin these unique caves were extended in the 1740’s by the infamous Sir Francis Dashwood, founder of the notorious Hellfire Club. His aim was to provide an extraordinary addition to his landscape gardens, no doubt inspired by his Grand Tours of Europe and the Ottoman Empire. Many of his fellow dilettantes were building great Estates and landscaping gardens and temples above ground but no others dared venture underground in this way. The chalk was used to build the main road from West Wycombe to High Wycombe. This also provided employment to the Villagers of West Wycombe following a succession of harvest failures. The achievement is a true feat of engineering and quite remarkable considering they were all dug by hand. You can still see the individual pick axe marks on the walls.

On his return from his travels Sir Francis established the famous Hell-fire Club which subsequently held chapter meetings in the Caves and whose members included Lord Sandwich, John Wilkes and other senior aristocrats and statesmen. Sir Francis later became Chancellor of the Exchequer. Benjamin Franklin was a close friend and visited West Wycombe often.

On entering the Caves, long winding passages lead deep underground for over half a mile, through the great Banqueting Hall and past various chambers. In these you will find scenes with various members of the Hellfire Club.

The final destination is the Inner Temple which is reached by crossing the River Styx. You are now several hundred feet below the Church on top of the hill.

August 1996 - We explored our new home. Hell's Gate is where the Fraser River squeezes down through a small canyon. It's also a tourist destination and there's a gondola down and attractions there.

On occasion, I will try to digitize some personal, historic photos. Prior to 2002, all my images were done chemically. It will take a while to get a representative bunch on flickr.
