On the Kocherufer, large parts of the city wall are preserved, such as the Sulferturm. The town could only be reached by a furrow through the Kocher. In the half-timbered house next to the tower, the Haalamt, the independent administration of the former salt boilers, has been located for several centuries.
Schwäbisch Hall "Swabian Hall", or Hall for short, is a city in the German state of Baden-Württemberg and capital of the district of Schwäbisch Hall. The city is located in the valley of the Kocher river in the north-eastern part of Baden-Württemberg.
Hall was a Free Imperial City for five centuries until it was annexed by Württemberg in 1802.
"Schwäbisch" refers to the Swabian League (German: Schwäbischer Bund). The origin of the second part of the name, "Hall", is unclear. It might be derived from a West Germanic word family that means "drying something by heating it", possibly referring to the open-pan salt making method used there until the saltworks closed down in 1925.
2058
It is the year 2058, global warming continues to return, 39th year in a row. The sea around Ålesund is ice-capped and today it is - 64 degrees Celsius. All houses have been black because of the use of coal for heating, all water-based power production has stopped.

Apart from that I thought this a fitting upload for the third Sunday in Advent.
There'll be more from Bilbao next week :o)
In The Netherlands, about 7 millions homes are still being heated with natural gas, the burning of which unfortunately not only heats our homes but also our planet.
Sorry, but I still have not very much time yet. Nebst my health issues, I have to do some "bricolage" (DIY), for I am about to get a new heating (with pellets). Sorry, please be patient!
Für Gina Fuchs!
it's been a while since we've had big blue skies. Today's forecast is for heavy rain possibly turning to sleet later . . .and my central heating system is making whining noises like it's about to break down . . .
Backup update: I bought a second external drive - 3 terabytes - just for my Pictures folder, which apart from all my photos, also holds the Lightroom catalogues, an absolutely essential part of the LR system.. So I will use the first external drive just for Time Machine backups of my MacBook Pro.

Did you know that spending time in the forest ist good for the immune system? It reduces inflammation and increases the number of killer cells.
How awesome is that?!
It's so sad that most of the forests around where I live are not well prepared for climate change. If we don't manage to limit heating of the earth, they will most likely die.

Filou does the only sensible thing at the moment and stays active ! Outside it is damp and cold and in the house the heating didn't work for two days. The problem seems to be fixed now but the house still feels icy. I have a cold now and the cats are nervous wrecks because of the strange intruders in their home who made a lot of noise. We will all need the weekend to recover.
This is a piece of digital art. I photographed the pipes in Genoa last year. On the one hand, the image is intended to show the contrast between oil-stained heating pipes and the equally warming yellow sun; on the other hand, it highlights how alternative energy sources seem to remain in the background compared to fossil fuels.
From nature back to industrial aesthetics.
I really like the hidden beauty of the form follows function approach in industrial settings.
This photo was taken in the Energiezentrale Forsthaus in Bern.

The church of Kerimäki in southeastern Finland is the largest wooden church in the world. It can accommodate 5000 people. It was built between 1844 and 1847. It has no heating and is therefore only used in summer.
There's an unwritten rule in the northern hemisphere about not running the house furnace during the month of September. And in some households, this moratorium extends even through October. Not sure where this all got started. It seems to be based on one part frugality, and three parts of folklore. But who am I to argue? It's no weirder than most of the crap I write in these posts. And it does serve to get me acclimatized to the impending season change. Indoor temperature registered 59 degrees the other morning. I just shut up and donned a fleece jacket.
The humble outdoor thermoter is in essence nothing more than a sealed glass tube containing a tiny amount of colored alcohol in its central vein, with a reserve in a bulb at its bottom.
When approaching this specimen with my lens and combination of macro rings, I was surprised to realize that the tube in question had a triangular shape section, which had never occurred to me before.

The Briol Main House is located in the Isarco Valley in Barbiano - Tre Chiese at 1'310 m above sea level. A jump into an ice-cold pool is not for everyone, but it certainly becomes a passion for those, who are in the search of such an unspoilt piece of earth. The building was planned by the artist Hubert Lanzinger in 1928 and it is one of the very rare testimonies of the Bauhaus building style in the Alps. Created from stone and wood with a flat roof. Columns, immense windows for a house in the middle of the mountains without heating and with Spartan furnishing.

This wood-burning stove sits outside an antique shop as a display. There is no real intention to try to heat up the outdoors, global warming more than covers that.
Viewpoint SNØHETTA, With the fireplace burning, it gives you a warm opportunity to enjoy the view from the top of this mountain range, and with a bit of luck, the wildlife that passes by from time to time.
