That random rock is known as Haystack Rock located in Pacific City, OR.

remember GOONIES!

Haystack Rock can be seen in the opening scene of The Goonies, when the Fratellis are fleeing from the police and then enter a race on the beach. It can be seen in the background. Later in the film you can see the Haystack Rock again when Mikey is pointing out some rocks in the distance.

Okay, this one is pretty nerdy, too (as if they aren't ALL nerdy!). I'm trying to be Mikey lining up the restaurant, the lighthouse, and Haystack Rock (behind me), but I didn't have a doubloon, just a beach rock!

Haystack Rock. Locals refer to it as Chief Kiwanda. If you look closely, you will see the profile of the Chief with his face pointing south and his "ponytail" being the loop on the north side of the rock.

All about the Haystack Valley.

This radically new approach is perhaps most vividly apparent in Cézanne’s landscapes and even in some of his still lifes, where a mere patchwork of textures coloured shapes is worked into a picture, upon which the eye and mind can rest and gradually unravel shapes and forms, perspective, etc in the normal way. This process can also be seen in Cézanne’s many studies of Mont St Victoire, and in Monet's soft studies of haystacks and Rouen Cathedral under varying lighting conditions.
