A painting of Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The rock from the opening scene of the Goonies!
I was taking a few shots of the Haystack from our hotel balcony and I happened to notice a young man drop to one knee and propose. We caught up with the couple (Aneesh and Becca) later in the evening and I shared my e-mail address with them and have since sent them these pictures. It felt strange to approach them and confess that I had creeped on their moment but they seem to really have appreciated it.
Haystack Rock is a huge monolith in the Pacific Ocean located at Pacific City Oregon...
From Wiki:
Besides the one at Canon Beach there are several other geographic features in Oregon named Haystack Rock, including two off the Oregon Coast. The tallest of these is in Tillamook County, located off Pacific City and near Cape Kiwanda. It stands 327 feet (100 m) above the sea and is the world's fourth largest sea stack or off-shore monolith in the world,. The other is in Coos County near Bandon.

From our last night in Oregon. I was hoping for a great sunset but the early evening was filled with a drizzle. But the sky did open briefly and had some pinks and purples so I focused on instead on capturing the reflection. I couldn't decide which composition I liked best so I am posting them all. Ha!
After a cloudy, rainy day, there were just enough breaks in the clouds at sunset to provide some nice rays pointing toward Haystack Rock.

Scope & Content Note: This image documents investigations and construction on various units of the Flathead Irrigation Project. The Project was initiated to determine rights and distribute water originating on the Flathead Indian Agency in Montana to both tribal and non-tribal land. The establishment of the Reservation in 1855 preceded Montana statehood by nearly 35 years and presented many challenges in establishing senority and providing for equitable distribution of water for the irrigation of farms and ranches.

Haystack Rock with people for scale. The tide is out here, but would come up past the people and even where I was standing to take this picture.
Boulder, Colorado. Some days I drive 4 miles from work to hike around the Boulder Valley Ranch area -- just for exercise and to gather my thoughts. That's Haystack Mountain (ha ha) in the background.
