This picture was captured when the bird was sitting on its eggs trying to hatch it. When the bird is inside the nest .. it is not at all visible from outside. I was hiding behind a creeper and rustled the leaves a bit... and the bird just popped out to check the noise.
Following on from last July. I only managed to catch one actually hatching... the last one! And it looks like hard work, being born!!

We're finally home! It is great to see family and friends in Greenville, Charleston, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, and finally our new home in Durham, NC.
This is the first time this species has been seen since 1983 and the first time photographed, as well as a range extension by 175 miles from where the type specimen was found.
I spotted this tiny web hanging off a tulip leaf with spiders hatching on it a few weeks ago. The spiders were only about the size of a uncooked piece of rice if they were even that big. This is a cropped 1 to 1 ratio image.
I initially thought these were ants, but they are termites. I can tell by the straight antenna on them. Ants would have bent antenna. Also it's spring and this is when the termites hatch and fly off. Fortunately they aren't in our house.

We're introducing Time Language all over the world. Time Language is the world's language consisting of numbers that anyone in the world can easily use. Time Language frees us from foreign languages. Now, there is no need for interpretation and translation. Time Language is pronounced in the language of each country and the meaning is the same. [000t0=Time Language, Copyright 1974. T.H. On 8/1/08, Ais and Sherman's babies started to "pip," making slashes in their egg shells. Our first baby hatched 8/02/08.
Nicely showing various developmental stages "along the diagonal": some pupae still wriggling in the "spit" in the lower right, then some beginning to hatch and the most advanced one in the uppermost left (in focus; slightly windy and the thin branch was long ) ...
They are large geese, and have large eggs. See the picture of me holding a pilgrim goose egg for comparison. African geese have been described as gentle giants, large and tall but lean for heavy breeds. They are very beautiful, with dark feathering not unlike the toulouse goose, and a black beak. They have dewlaps below the chin and a knob on their beaks. They weigh anywhere from 17-20 pounds, approximately. Females weigh less.
We saw two actual adult kiwi birds but photography was not permitted - and besides, it was pitch black as they're nocturnal!
As usual, there was some drama. The hens left the nest with the two chicks, leaving behind one egg that was in the process of hatching. The chick inside was loudly peeping and I just couldn't leave it. We brought it under a warm light and a few hours later, voila! Of course, then what? It was late at night and the hens were in bed and we decided to take a chance that they'll reject/peck it and shove it under them. As of this morning it was still alive and with them and now I'm forcing myself to not look in on it and let nature take its course.
this morning we saw three or four hatching and the parents practising to get them to open mouths for food...
