Very nice 2012 Ferarri parked at picnic area at Green Lake this afternoon, in the right place at the right time.

Caught this BYD prototype car again, this time parked on a suburban street in Brighton.

I'm assuming this is their new Dolphin hatchback based on what I have seen in the news from the automotive world.

It doesn't seem to be on any Australian registration. What is in the place of number plates, are a pair of photos of a Chinese number plate reading "B6601" placed on what looks to be a table or some sort of flat surface.

A larger and better cut photo of that same number plate can be seen affixed to the rear window.

As you may be able to tell, I don't photograph cars from China and that is because I do not have an interest in them. As for this one, I never see a prototype out on the road so, I definitely wanted to take it's photo no matter where it's coming from.

The FSO Polonez is a motor vehicle that was developed in Poland in collaboration with Fiat and produced by Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych from 1978 to 2002. It was based on the Polski Fiat 125p platform with a new hatchback design by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was available in a variety of body styles that included two- and four- door compact-sized cars, station wagons, as well as commercial versions that included pickup truck and ambulance uses. With production total of over 1 million units, not counting pick-up and van variants. The Polonez was marketed in other nations and was popular in its domestic market until Poland joined the European Union in 2004.

The car's name comes from the Polish dance, the polonaise and was chosen through a readers' poll conducted by the Życie Warszawy newspaper.

The Polonez was based on the Polski Fiat 125p that Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych (FSO) built under license from Fiat. The internal components, including modernised 1.3/1.5 Litre engines, (pistons and carburetor), the chassis, and other mechanicals, were from the Polski Fiat 125p, but the body was an entirely new liftback body designed in the early 1970s by Centro Stile Fiat as a new prototype of Fiat. After the Polish side started co-operation with Fiat over a new car, the original design was changed due to Polish requirements.

In 1981 and 1983, the FSO Polonez Coupé with proper three-door bodywork was introduced. It had the usual 1,481 cc engine with 60 kW (80 hp) and 2.0 DOHC Fiat. It was the first FSO model to feature electronic ignition and fuel economiser owing to a supply of pre-heated air to the suction manifold. Only a few dozen were produced.

Always liked the look of these Honda Accord hatchbacks. Actually saw two in a short period of time. I liked this for the mismatched wheels - an alloy on the front and stock hub cap at the rear.

The European-market Civic (FK/FN) was offered as three and five-door hatchbacks and produced in Swindon, United Kingdom. It has a different appearance compared to the sedan and coupe Civics.

Tthe exterior of the European model more aggressively styled; the sweeping front arc is maintained and a perspex cover resembling a lamp cluster replaces the grille. The rear tail lights are also similarly styled. Triangular accents are found front and back, with triangular fog-lamps in front and dual triangle exhaust tips at the back. The rear glass is split into two levels, divided by a spoiler lip and the fuel filler cap is a race-inspired exposed metal effect cap. For the 5-door models, the rear door is hidden away with the door handles tucked away at the corners of the rear windows, creating the illusion of a two-door coupe.

Mechanically, the European-market Civic differs from the sedan and coupe variants in that it uses a simpler torsion beam suspension system for the rear wheels compared to the double-wishbone system in the sedan and coupe versions.

Honda debuted a Type R concept for the European Civic at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show; the Type R, basing on the three-door hatchback developed for the European market, has a 2.0-litre 201 bhp (150 kW) at 7800 rpm inline 4 cylinder engine. The suspension uses MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam in the back.

Name

Nissan named the Qashqai after the Qashqai (pronounced [qaʃqaːʔiː]) Turkic people living in mountainous Southwestern Iran.

Nissan considered releasing the Chinese version as the CCUV (Compact Crossover Utility Vehicle). In Australia the Qashqai carries the name Dualis from the Japanese domestic market version because Nissan worried Qashqai could be pronounced "cash cow". The press has often used that pun to describe the sales success of the model.

Production and sales

The Nissan Qashqai Concept at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show.

The Qashqai has been built at Nissan's Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK (NMUK) Sunderland, Tyne and Wear plant since December 2006.

It is the first model to be styled by Nissan Design Europe in London, with engineering development led by Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) in Cranfield, Bedfordshire. First unveiled as a concept vehicle at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, it was globally presented at the 2006 Paris Motor Show.

By the end of 2007, Nissan had sold approximately 100,000 Nissan Qashqais in Europe, including 17,554 in UK, 15,376 in Russia, and 10,746 in Italy. Since its facelift in 2010, the Qashqai has sold over 200,000 annual units in Europe (excluding Russia) every year, and the first generation Qashqai has sold more than 1.24 million units in Europe during its 7.5 year production run.

The Qashqai is exported to the Middle East and additional overseas markets.

In order to increase production capacity in Nissan's UK plant in Sunderland, some models of the 2014 Qashqai will be produced in Nissan's Russian plant in Saint Petersburg.

Features:

Built on an all-new platform, the Qashqai went on sale in February 2007, and Nissan targeted more than 100,000 sales per year. Nissan said the car would cater to those buyers who want a more dynamic design, but are not attracted to the large, aggressive nature of a sport utility vehicle. The car slots below the X-Trail in the Nissan range and partially replaces the conventional Primera, even though it took the production place of the smaller Almera. In terms of size, its 4,310 millimetres (169.7 in) length and 1,610 millimetres (63.4 in) height make it fall between compact MPVs, such as the SEAT Altea and Peugeot 5008; and compact SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The top half of Qashqai has a sleek, dynamic form with a distinctive shoulder line which rises at the rear — a design cue similar to that of the Nissan Murano. The lower portion resembles an SUV due to large, pronounced wheel arches and a slightly elevated ground clearance. The Qashqai uses the same platform as the X-Trail (the vehicle upon which the Qashqai is based). Nissan regards the Qashqai as a rival to such cars as the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V and in 2007 it received a five star Euro NCAP safety rating — the best ever adult occupant score.

Why is it here in LUGNuts' 8th Birthday Challenge?

If I had made the car in black, I could have built it to LUGNuts' 82nd Challenge, - "LUGNuts in Real Life", - my sister-in-law Emma drives one. Also, my friend Ineka has a red one, just like this one - bought on a whim, even though she had spent a couple of months discussing what I would recommend to buy (not this - maybe something cooler like a DS5).

In the end, the vehicle has been built to LUGNuts' 35th build challenge, - "Big in Japan", - mainly to reflect the success that Nissan has had with the Dualis / Qashqai in markets outside of Japan, notably Europe. The Qashqai featuring prominently toward the top of sales charts in a number of European markets.

This Lego miniland scale Nissan Dualis / Qashqai (J10 2007 - 2013) has been created for Flickr LUGNuts' 96th Build Challenge - The 8th Birthday, titled - 'Happy Crazy Eight Birthday, LUGNuts' - where all previous build challenges are available to build to. This model is built to the LUGNuts 35th Build Challenge, - "Big in Japan" - a challenge to build a vehicle designed or built in Japan, or by a Japanese car company.

Fiat began designing the Ritmo hatchback – as a replacement for the 128 sedan – in 1972, following the body style of its 127 supermini as European manufacturers began launching small family hatchbacks, notably the Volkswagen Golf in 1974.

Prior to its launch, the press speculated that the project codename 138 would be the final production name, however, Fiat instead gave its new car the Ritmo name, rather than another three digit number. Offered in 3- and 5-door hatchback and cabriolet body styles – from 1978 to 1988 with two facelifts.

The Ritmo was manufactured at the Cassino plant using a system developed by its subsidiary Comau, the "Robogate" system – which automated the bodyshell assembly and welding process using robots, giving rise to its advertising slogan "Handbuilt by robots", immortalised in a television advertising campaign showing the robots assembling the Ritmo bodyshells to the strains of Rossini's The Barber of Seville. The exterior has plastic bumper fascias integrated into the styling which combined strong round shapes with overall sharp lines, achieving a drag coefficient of Cd=0.38.

The third and final Cavelier was introduced in October 1988 for the 1989 model year, and was Vauxhalls version of the Opel Vectra A. The model was offered as a Saloon or Hatchback but with no Estate version. At the lower end of the engine range came a new economical 1.4ltr The biggest changes to the range were the addition of 2.0 L 16-valve engines, better known as the "red top" or XE. This was fitted to the GSi 2000 and later SRis. Also made available was a four-wheel drive system, fitted to a 2.0iL model (8 valve SRi spec) and on a version of the GSi 2000.. There were two new Diesel engines a 1.7 L, 60 hp (45 kW) from launch, and a 82 hp (61 kW) 1.7 Isuzu-engined turbodiesel from 1992. The early SRis were fitted with the 2.0 8-valve engine from the previous Cavalier model, which produced 130 hp (97 kW).

Despite the lack of an Estate option the Cavalier topped the large-medium family car sales charts in Britain in 1990, ahead of the Ford Sierra, Rover 400 and Rover Montego and it remained the top selling car in its sector until overtaken by the Ford Modeo in 1994.

A facelift in 1992 saw the exterior updated with The facelift also saw the end of the 1.4ltr entry model along with the addition of a 2.5ltr V6 and a new four-wheel drive version badged simply "Cavalier Turbo" with a turbocharged version of the 16-valve engine producing over 200 hp replacing the 2000 GSi

The third generation Cavelier had seen a big improvement in terms of durability and the rusting problems that had plagued earlier Vauxhalls

The last Cavalier, registered N54UWK, was first used on Saturday, 21 October 1995 and is now SORN. the car pictured was first registered six and a half weeks earlier on 11 September 1995 and is still hail and hearty.

The Cavelier was the last car to be named entirely by Vauxhall Luton, it sucessor the Vectra and all suceeding models have shared their model names with their Opel twin. .

The Cavalier was used in the British Touring Car Championship from 1990 to 1995. The Cavalier was always competitive, but the strength of the competition, and bad luck, conspired to deny John Cleland the victory in both the 1991 and 1992 seasons (although Vauxhall Motorsport did win the Manufacturer's Championship in 1992), 1993 and 1994 both saw Cleland finish 4th in the championship; however the Cavalier finally won the title in 1995, with John Cleland winning the Driver's championship, and Vauxhall Sport the Manufacturer's title

The Turbo version was introduced during the 1992 model range revision powered by a 2 litre Turbocharched 16 valve engine with six speed transmission and all wheel drive.
