Lineup: Mischa Macpherson (v), Kim Carnie (v), Charlie Stewart (fiddle), Innes White (g), Alistair Iain Paterson (p/harmonium), James Lindsay (b), Signy Jakobsdottir (d/percussion).

I saw this group three times at Celtic Connections 2019: Mischa Macpherson's New Voices commission in the Strathclyde Suite, a support slot at the Main Auditorium and at the Late Night Sessions (the last two previewing some of the New Voices songs). Called Bho Èirigh gu Laighe na Grèine (Sun, Moon, Land, Life, Sea and first performed at the 2018 Blas festival, it consists of settings of ancient and modern Gaelic poetry (plus some spoken poetry and instrumentals). 30th (and early hours of 31st) January 2020 at the Blue Arrow, Glasgow.

Woman Stays On / Folky Open Mic, hosted by Jenn Butterworth (free event).

This version of Folky Open Mi was hosted by Jenn Butterworth. Called Woman Stays On the premise was that each act included at least one woman on the stage. Unlike more open Open Mics the evening was pre-programmed by Butterworth through her contacts with the array of musical talent based in Gladgow orattending the Celtic Connections Festival.

Lineup: Mischa Macpherson (v), Ankna Arockiam (v), Charlie Stewart (fiddle), Alistair Iain Paterson (harmonium), Hardeep "Sodhi" Deerhe (tabla).

This new project was due to have its debut concert at Òran Mór two days later (though Mischa MacPherson and Ankna Arockiam were both involved in a dance drama "Hebridean Treasure: Lost & Found" last year). The group consisted of Macpherson, Charlie Stewart and Ali Paterson (who were both in the Macpherson band I saw at last year's Celltic Connections), Arockiam (from Hyderabad) and Sodhi Deerhe (Glasgow born of Indian descent). Arockiam moved to Glasgow in 2011 to study at the Royal Conservatoire, first for a B.Mus. and now a Ph.D. Over the years she has studied Western Classical Music (as a Mezzo Soprano, violinist and cellist), Carnaatc vocal and Bharatanatyam dance. Kaizer's Orchestra plays oil barrels, wheel and harmonium. And they make it sound good too! From a concert at the Steinkjer Festival, Norway 2009.

In the Ther (Chariot) along with the deity, Kapaleeswarar, a Nadhaswaram troupe is also positioned and plays the notes. Here you see the Nadhaswaram, the thavil player's hand on the thavil and the person playing the harmonium. The crowd was pushing me and when I took this image I was resting on a Neelmetal Fanalca bin.

Paramount's Prop Shop

In the process of dismantling the main parts. Taking a look under the keyboard. The keys depress onto the vertical wooden dowels which I guess opens the valve for the corresponding reed.

The pads that you can see towards the front of the keys in the middle are supposed to depress the metal tongues that do the coupling (by pushing down on the wooden rings around the dowels at either end.
