The Workhouse, also known as Greet House
A museum operated by the National Trust.
Built in 1824, it was the prototype of the 19th-century workhouse, and was cited by the Royal Commission on the poor law as the best example among the existing workhouses, before the resulting New Poor Law of 1834 led to the construction of workhouses across the country.
It is described by the National Trust as the best-preserved workhouse in England.
The building remained in use until the early 1990s, when it was used to provide temporary accommodation for mothers and children.
Its acquisition by the National Trust reflects that organisation's wish to ensure the continued existence of this Grade II* listed building that was potentially to be turned into residential flats.
Restoration work began with roof repairs in 2000 and is ongoing.
Many rooms have been redecorated as they would have looked in the 19th century and buildings, walls and privies, which had been demolished in the 20th century, have been reinstated.
In 2015 the property was featured in the four-part series 24 Hours in the Past, in which six celebrities experienced what life was like in Victorian Britain.

Walking up the paupers' path towards The Workhouse it is easy to imagine how the Victorian poor might have felt as they sought refuge here. This austere building was a place of last resort for the destitute. Its architecture was influenced by prison design and its harsh regime became a blueprint for workhouses throughout the country.
This rural workhouse was designed to house around 160 inmates. They lived and worked in a strictly segregated environment with virtually no contact between the old and infirm, able-bodied men and women and children
Designed by a local minister, the Reverend J. T. Becher, whose aim was to provide an economic model for helping the poor whilst reducing the burden on local tax payers.

Harmonium
Made by Mason & Hamlin in the late 19th century.
It is unclear if the instrument was purchased for the Workhouse at this point or as late as 1916.
There is reference to a harmonium being purchased from a Mrs Earle for £3 3 shillings in February 1884.
This Mason & Hamlin harmonium was in use in the Committee Room at The Workhouse in the 1930s.
It was rescued from Greet House in 1980 by Mr John Howells. and donated to The Workhouse by him in May 2001.
I suppose that the harmonium bears a huge share of the responsibility for the decline in the quality of congregational singing in the US & the UK from 1850 to 1950. The lazy, wheezing sound is by nature unable to inspire enthusiastic - not to mention robust - singing. Maybe it had another purpose/function?

Le Baby grand piano est un modèle de Patricia Crawford. L'explication est dans "Origami 4" de Robert Harbin.
L'harmonium est de Yoshihide Momotani. Le petit recueil de partitions est plié dans la même feuille (noire d'un côté, blanche de l'autre, et évidemment sans ciseaux et sans colle. Je trouve ce pliage très sympa. Par contre, je n'ai aucun souvenir du livre dans lequel j'ai vu la description de ce modèle :-(

Die zeitliche Einschätzung habe ich aufgrund der Bildbeschaffenheit und Kleidung vorgenommen.
"Das Harmonium (Plural Harmonien [Betonung auf dem o] oder Harmoniums[1]) ist ein Tasteninstrument, bei dem der Ton durch verschieden lange Durchschlagzungen erzeugt wird, die von Luft umströmt in Schwingung versetzt werden. Damit gehört das Harmonium zu den Aerophonen. Ein ähnliches System der Tonerzeugung haben z. B. das Akkordeon oder die Mundharmonika.
Im Gegensatz zu den Pfeifen der Orgel produzieren die Zungen des Harmoniums mehr unharmonische Obertöne, wodurch ein weniger reiner Klang entsteht. Diesen versuchte man besonders beim Saugwindharmonium durch enge Kanzellen abzudämpfen, wodurch das Saugwindharmonium einen weichen, summenden, teilweise orgelartigen Klang erhält. Dagegen ist das Druckwindharmonium kräftiger und schärfer im Ton und in der Klangfarbe mit einem guten Akkordeon vergleichbar." Wikipedia.
An old reed organ, found in the basement of a junk store in central PA, under a pile of stuffed animals. It had eight different stops, plus treble and bass couplers (not pictured). Also, it had a 6 octave range.
But it's unplayable, definitely a restoration project. The pedal pumps and bellows are busted, so it's silent. Still, the stops and keys felt pretty good, so maybe it's not that far gone.
I want it, but have no place for it now, nor any time soon. Boo!

The Harmonium was first developed in France in the middle of the 19th century. It has a set of free reads, a keyboard and bellows. The bellows can be operated in two ways, either by sunction from below the instrument using foot pedals or by pressure from the back using the left hand.
This instrument is of the foor pedal variety, also known as a Reed Organ (or Pump or Parlour Organ). Many of these were made in the 19th century for small churches and some homes.
It is a Mannborg travel harmonium built in the 1910s by the company in Leipzig, Germany.
Reed Organs/Harmoniums are assigned the number 412.132 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification of musical instruments ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbostel-Sachs ), indicating:
4 = Aerophones. Sound is primarily produced by vibrating air. The instrument itself does not vibrate, and there are no vibrating strings or membranes.
41 = Free Aerophones. The vibrating air is not contained within the instrument.
412 = Interruptive Free Aerophones. The air-stream is interrupted periodically.
412.1 = Idiophonic Interruptive Aerophones or Reeds. The air-stream is directed against a lamella, setting it in periodic vibration to interrupt the stream intermittently.
412.13 = Free Reed Instruments. Instrument features a reed which vibrates within a closely fitting slot.
412.132 = Sets of Free Reads.
