The name "Shangri-La" comes from the fictional, mystical, harmonious place, described by James Hilton in his novel "Lost Horizon".
Shot taken on March 14th 2012, from the summit of Mount Brévent (2.525 m - 8.284 ft), France.
Down on the right you can see the rocky peaks I've used as subject in my previous shots.
About this photo, I must recognize that this particular composition is just inevitable... when you're out there, at night, with the tent illuminated from inside, well... the temptation is too strong... so, why resist? :-)
In the background you can see part of the Mont Blanc massif French side, gently illuminated from below by the lights of Chamonix.
Mont Blanc is both a massif and a peak.
The name can refer to the entire mountain range bordering French, Italy and Switzerland, as well as the main peak at 4.810 meters altitude.
Mont Blanc is the highest peak in western Europe. The top peak in all of Europe is Mount Elbrus (Caucasus, Russia) 5.642 m.
So, you see, the highest point is dependent upon the definition of Europe.
From left to the right you can see the entire range of the Aiguilles de Chamonix (with the famuos Aiguille du Midi lit for the night), the Mont Blanc du Tacul (4.248), Mont Maudit (4.465 m), Mont Blanc summit (4.810 m), Dôme du Goûter (4.306), Aiguille du Goûter (3.863).
In the night sky, on the right, we have some relevant stars, just look in the sector above the Aiguille du Goûter and Le Brévent summit: Aludra, Wezen, Adhara, of Canis Major constellation.

Harmonious Landscape
The photographer / artist stands alone on one of the three hills and is one with the nature around him. I was already there, exactly at this point. The view is amazing and if you can enjoy the peace and silence on these hills you are the happiest man on earth. What more do you need? I can't get the words of Vincent van Gogh out of my mind. That's why you can find them below. Peace be with you and all the people who find themselves in a senseless, violent war.
Spread Love not war !!!
I could imagine that Vincent would have loved to have stood on one of these three hills. I sometimes feel like him and I can empathize and understand him so well. I'm a bad follower for many of you and I don't know how much longer I'll stay with you. (Social media is not my forte. I prefer photography.) So sorry for all this. Please take care of you my dear friends. Enjoy the beauty of the coming colorful season.
"Though I am often in the depths of misery, there is still calm, pure harmony and music within me.“
- Vincent van Gogh
“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.”
- Vincent van Gogh
This song holds such a powerful message for those suffering from mental illness. Because these are usually the kindest, sweetest and truest among us. They are gifted, many artfully or musically and their works are an expression of the love they hold inside. Like Vincent they too struggle to live in this tough world. Please remember to be kind.

This atmospheric photo captures the Hamburg TV Tower, also known as the Heinrich-Hertz-Tower, standing majestically against a deep blue sky. The lights in the surrounding buildings and the gentle illumination of the tower enhance the tranquil ambiance of the evening. The silhouettes of the bare trees in the foreground create a natural frame, harmoniously contrasting with the warm, glowing windows and the tower's clear structure. The transition from day to night is palpable, giving the image a special depth and serenity.
"Fear is a wall that separates what you are, from what you could become." D. Fischman.
The beautiful medieval walls of Ávila, in Romanesque style, are the best preserved in Spain, and probably one of the most harmonious in the whole European continent. Within this defensive structure we find a city that has managed to preserve its historical and architectural legacy, as well as its exquisite culinary tradition. It is not surprising that, therefore, it was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
The wall offers a lot of interesting photographs to take. From close up we can capture its imposing appearance. From afar, however, we can best transmit how the city is still incredibly enveloped by these walls. As if it still had to defend itself against its old enemies. At the blue hour, the towers and walls lights, makes the incomparable beauty of this Castilian city even more special.

Outstanding Universal Value
Brief synthesis
Situated in North Yorkshire, the 18th century designed landscape of Studley Royal water garden and pleasure grounds, including the ruins of Fountains Abbey, is one harmonious whole of buildings, gardens and landscapes. This landscape of exceptional merit and beauty represents over 800 years of human ambition, design and achievement.
Studley Royal Park is one of the few great 18th century gardens to survive substantially in its original form, and is one of the most spectacular water gardens in England. The landscape garden is an outstanding example of the development of the ‘English’ garden style throughout the 18th century, which influenced the rest of Europe. With the integration of the River Skell into the water gardens and the use of ‘borrowed’ vistas from the surrounding countryside, the design and layout of the gardens is determined by the form of the natural landscape, rather than being imposed upon it. The garden contains canals, ponds, cascades, lawns and hedges, with elegant garden buildings, gateways and statues. The Aislabies’ vision survives substantially in its original form, most famously in the spectacular view of the ruins of Fountains Abbey itself.
Fountains Abbey ruins is not only a key eye catcher in the garden scheme, but is of outstanding importance in its own right, being one of the few Cistercian houses to survive from the 12th century and providing an unrivalled picture of a great religious house in all its parts.
The remainder of the estate is no less significant. At the west end of the estate is the transitional Elizabethan/Jacobean Fountains Hall, partially built from reclaimed abbey stone. With its distinctive Elizabethan façade enhanced by a formal garden with shaped hedges, it is an outstanding example of its period.
Located in the extensive deer park is St Mary’s Church, a masterpiece of High Victorian Gothic architecture, designed by William Burges in 1871 and considered to be one of his finest works.
Criterion (i): Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey owes its originality and striking beauty to the fact that a humanised landscape was created around the largest medieval ruins in the United Kingdom. The use of these features, combined with the planning of the water garden itself, is a true masterpiece of human creative genius.
Criterion (iv): Combining the remains of the richest abbey in England, the Jacobean Fountains Hall, and Burges’s miniature neo-Gothic masterpiece of St Mary’s, with the water gardens and deer park into one harmonious whole, Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey illustrates the power of medieval monasticism and the taste and wealth of the European upper classes in the 18th century.
In this digital watercolor rendition derived from one of my photographs, the essence of Bruges, Belgium, comes to life along a tranquil canal. The scene masterfully captures the captivating beauty of the city's historic architecture, with a deliberate emphasis on the charming buildings that grace the canal's edge.
Soft, pastel hues delicately wash over the canvas, replicating the gentle play of sunlight on the aged facades. The architectural gems lining the canal are rendered with intricate detail, their centuries-old stories told through the meticulous strokes of the digital brush. The buildings showcase a harmonious blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, with the warm tones of the brick facades complemented by the subtle interplay of shadows and highlights.
The reflection of these architectural wonders is hinted at in the calm waters of the canal, but the focus remains steadfast on the majestic structures rising proudly above the waterline. Each building boasts unique features—pointed arches, ornate stonework, and stepped gables—all contributing to the city's timeless allure. The digital watercolor technique adds a touch of ethereal beauty, creating a dreamlike quality that transports viewers to a place where history and art seamlessly converge.
The composition carefully balances the elements, drawing the viewer's eye to the intricate details of the buildings while maintaining the tranquility of the canal setting. As a result, the scene becomes a digital masterpiece that not only preserves the architectural splendor of Bruges but also infuses it with a sense of artistic interpretation and contemplative beauty.

Can't believe it has been almost 6 months since the last Vivid Sydney!
Time to post a few more pic's I think.
I'd like to dedicate this photo to all the Muslim brothers and sisters among us and to inject a bit of joy and colour into our lives! We all need to support each other in these troubled times.
I really love living in a multicultural society, it truly enriches our lives and we can all learn from each other. We can all live together harmoniously on this fragile planet .
Don't let those terrorists beat us, let's enjoy life as much as we can.
That way, we are winning.

Thanks very much for your interest, fav or time to comment ! - I wish you and yours a harmonious and inspired new year !!!
Most of the viewers of the three pictures in this series so far will have an idea of the motivation behind their creation. - Of course ... it is a feeling of powerlessness - in the face of the excessive handling of humanity with its only home: the earth. - I think, especially among photographers it is not necessary to go into detail. But if I am wrong, just looking at the environmental catastrophes owing to rising damage reports in the insurance industry is enough.
The pictures should not bring insects or spiders into disrepute. The motives are only symbolic of the many self-inflicted catastrophes, of which the species extinction is only one of many. - The idea for its creation is already months ago. But it was the expected amount of time that kept getting in the way of a start. - It is expected that there will be more in this series, but not in the short term.
Amongst some things that I have barely had any focus on in recent months is the production of my own musical ideas. Since this will change immediately, the number of less time-consuming image publications will probably thin out for some time.
This was taken at a park in Raleigh (can't remember the name). Its one of my personal favs because yeah its nature, but it kinda reminds me of a harmonious version of us humans. The trees are grouped together in a cliquey manner. The couple in the middle might be best buds ;)
Oh, my whimsical mind
Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels_Town_Hall:
Tower
The tower is made up of two very different parts that nevertheless form a harmonious ensemble: a square base dating from the first phase of construction and a lantern tower built by Jan van Ruysbroek nearly half a century later.
The square base is pierced by an ogival portal surmounted by the same decoration as the left wing: mullioned windows on the first floor, row of statues, then mullioned windows inscribed under a trefoil tympanum on the second floor. This square tower is then extended by two floors, each pierced by a pair of ogival bays on the side facing the Grand-Place.
Next comes the finely openwork octagonal lantern tower, supported at its base by four buttressed turrets, also octagonal. It has three levels pierced with elegant openwork ogival bays and adorned with a profusion of arcades, parapets and gargoyles, and ends with a remarkable openwork spire enhanced with gilding and surmounted by the statue of Saint Michael, the patron saint of the City of Brussels, slaying a dragon or demon.

Choosing another subject this time which is not nature. May I keep you guessing for a day or two?
I thought of this particular subject when I was in bed last night and tried it out today. I'm actually really happy with it and love how the colours seem to blend in with one another. It reminds me a little of the paintings by expressionist abstract artist, Mark Rothko.

Afternoon skies were stormy, and initially, it didn't look like sunset would be anything spectacular, so we debated on whether to go in early or not. I suggested we head down to Oxbow Bend and hang out for a while, so off I went through the willow, looking for that "perfect" spot, and Mike set up his spotting scope and entertained other visitors with watching beavers and elk. Winds were high, clouds were thick, and I was just about ready to give up when all of a sudden, there was a break in the clouds, the river calmed, and this scene unfolded. A harmonious, soothing night at the Bend :-)
Hope your weekend is as peaceful and enjoyable as this evening turned out to be. Have a great one, and thank you for all your visits and comments!!!!!

Nice view of the Serra de Montgrony from the Mirador de la Devesa.
The rounded hills surrounded by a sea of mist create a feeling of peace and tranquility. The parallel inclination of the nearby hills contrasts with the horizontality of the distant hills, producing a pronounced and harmonious contrast of the landscape at the same time.

This collection shows an atmospheric and intimate part of the David Gareja Monastery complex, located in the vast, semi-desert region of eastern Georgia. The buildings, made of rough natural stone and covered with warm, orange tiled roofs, blend harmoniously with the rust-colored, barren mountain landscape in the background. At the center of the image is a simple but characteristic bell tower, typical of the traditional Georgian Orthodox architectural style. At the bottom left of the image we see a monk — dressed in long, sober robes — moving calmly along the stone path. His presence underlines that this is not a museum or an abandoned heritage site, but a living monastery, where a community of monks still lives and works. The Georgian Orthodox monks at David Gareja lead a quiet and dedicated life. They follow a strict monastic order, focused on prayer, contemplation, silence and the preservation of age-old traditions. Life is largely lived within the monastery walls, far removed from the modern world. Monks maintain the grounds themselves: from the gardens and paths to the restoration of frescoes and chapels carved into the surrounding rock faces. The atmosphere in the monastery is one of timelessness. Everything breathes peace, simplicity and spiritual devotion. The silence is interrupted only by the sound of the wind or a bell calling to prayer. For visitors, it feels like stepping back in time — to a place where faith, history and landscape have become one.

The Stephansplatz is a square at the geographical centre of Vienna. It is named after its most prominent building, the Stephansdom, Vienna's cathedral and one of the tallest churches in the world. Before the 20th century, a row of houses separated Stephansplatz from Stock-im-Eisen-Platz, but since their destruction, the name Stephansplatz started to be used for the wider area covering both. To the west and south, respectively, run the exclusive shopping streets Graben (literally "ditch") and Kärntner Straße ("Kärnten" is the German for Carinthia). Opposite the Stephansdom is the Haas-Haus, a piece of striking modern architecture by Hans Hollein. Although public opinion was originally skeptical about the combination of the mediaeval cathedral and the glass and steel building, it is now considered an example of how old and new architecture can mix harmoniously .

The Female Blue-black Grassquit (Volatinia jacarina) captured at The Lost City of Falan in Tolima, Colombia, is an exquisite example of avian beauty in her natural habitat. This shot features her perched gracefully on a branch, her subtle brown plumage blending harmoniously with the lush green foliage. The soft, diffused light highlights the intricate feather details, adding depth and texture to the image. Achieving this shot was particularly challenging as she was actively engaging in "leap display," a behavior where she jumps up and down on a branch to establish territory and attract mates. This required a shutter speed of 1/60 and an ISO of 3200 to capture sufficient light without motion blur.
From a technical perspective, the low light conditions and her dynamic behavior posed significant challenges. The high ISO setting was crucial to ensure her delicate details were well-defined despite the dim lighting. The shallow depth of field isolates her from the background, emphasizing the Grassquit's intricate plumage. This image exemplifies the meticulous approach needed to capture wildlife in its most natural and undisturbed state, reflecting my commitment to conservation photography. The balance of light and shadow in this composition speaks to the serene and hidden beauty of the forest environment.

Your music, your mind
in the heavens confined
a procuration of Autumn
set adrift in harmonious light
morning delivers rapturously
sealed soundly and breathlessly
cold nights abrade sunfilled dreams
until Summer sleeps, it screams
this slogan flies past, daily;
nightly song becomes secant
no link with day, nor reality;
discord in the line of human congeniality
we seek, we lust, we desire, we forget
nature is our One, our DJ, our first love pre-set
do you remember? it was our first kiss
below trees, in first light, it's our final set
come now, the One looks over and unto us
bury unfurnished thoughts, rise with the positivity you possess.

"Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia—a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. The word also evokes the imagery of exoticism of the Orient. The story of Shangri-La is based on the concept of Shambhala, a mystical city in Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
