April 23, 2015 on our trip to the blipmeet at Wanaka, Central Otago in New Zealand. www.polaroidblipfoto.com/browse/me
Our first morning in Cromwell. We woke to heavy fog which took a while to lift. This shot is in Bannockburn on our way to have a lunch at Carrick Winery looking over Lake Dunstan.
Bannockburn is a small historic gold mining town located outside of Cromwell in Central Otago, New Zealand.
The area was first made known as a rich alluvial gold field and was mined extensively in the 1860s.
Its uniquely warm, dry climate earned it the name 'The heart of the desert', as climatic conditions and human activity have combined to strip the area of most of the original native vegetation leaving rocks, sands and soils exposed. Today, these climate conditions make Bannockburn the home of many vineyards and stonefruit orchards.
Wine in this region, like the majority of Central Otago, focuses primarily on Pinot noir, suited to the dry climate and soils. The climate of Bannockburn epitomizes that of the Central Otago wine region and claims some of the highest temperatures and lowest rainfall in the area. The area is limited by geographical constraints to relatively small outputs, and most of the vineyards boast a boutique high quality wine with typically small volumes of grapes.

Excerpt from www.wallpaper.com/art/galleries/olafur-eliasson-inaugurat...:
A harmonious cycle of interconnected nows (2023)
His new works at Azabudai Hills are no less layered. Looking upwards in the glass-fronted lobby of Mori JP Tower (at 330m, the tallest skyscraper in Japan), A harmonious cycle of interconnected nows hangs from a 15m-high ceiling, comprising a set of four intricately delicate spiralling forms, each spanning 3m in diameter.
The spirals, made from recycled zinc (a first for Eliasson) follow the dynamic trajectory of a single point to express the movement found in all things. A complex series of interconnected, polyhedron-shaped modules is threaded into loops, twists and curves, their multi-faceted surfaces gently reflecting the shifting sun outside.
Explaining the concept, Eliasson says: ‘The work was inspired by shifting scales: looking simultaneously at the macro level, where everything is in constant motion, and at the micro level, where everything consists of tiny building blocks.
‘These large-scale motions are all, to a certain extent, cycles, even if they take place at a pace or scale that is beyond anything we can visualise – our planet, the sun, the solar system travelling through space, the passing of the seasons, the water cycle and the rock cycle on Earth. What appears solid is actually in motion, ephemeral. At the same time, the world is made up of these elemental building blocks that exhibit a clarity or structure that is seemingly stable – crystals, molecules, and atomic structures.’

The church is Baroque in the Netherlands style. The facade of the three orders is very elegant. Lines of conventional structure interspersed with decorations and Baroque additions give the whole a harmonious balance without overload. Unfortunately the lack of space - access to the church overlooks the street - does not allow the necessary perspective to artistic appreciation of the entire facade
The Stephansplatz is a square at the geographical centre of Vienna. It is named after its most prominent building, the Stephansdom, Vienna's cathedral and one of the tallest churches in the world. Before the 20th century, a row of houses separated Stephansplatz from Stock-im-Eisen-Platz, but since their destruction, the name Stephansplatz started to be used for the wider area covering both. To the west and south, respectively, run the exclusive shopping streets Graben (literally "ditch") and Kärntner Straße ("Kärnten" is the German for Carinthia). Opposite the Stephansdom is the Haas-Haus, a piece of striking modern architecture by Hans Hollein. Although public opinion was originally skeptical about the combination of the mediaeval cathedral and the glass and steel building, it is now considered an example of how old and new architecture can mix harmoniously .

Outstanding Universal Value
Brief synthesis
Situated in North Yorkshire, the 18th century designed landscape of Studley Royal water garden and pleasure grounds, including the ruins of Fountains Abbey, is one harmonious whole of buildings, gardens and landscapes. This landscape of exceptional merit and beauty represents over 800 years of human ambition, design and achievement.
Studley Royal Park is one of the few great 18th century gardens to survive substantially in its original form, and is one of the most spectacular water gardens in England. The landscape garden is an outstanding example of the development of the ‘English’ garden style throughout the 18th century, which influenced the rest of Europe. With the integration of the River Skell into the water gardens and the use of ‘borrowed’ vistas from the surrounding countryside, the design and layout of the gardens is determined by the form of the natural landscape, rather than being imposed upon it. The garden contains canals, ponds, cascades, lawns and hedges, with elegant garden buildings, gateways and statues. The Aislabies’ vision survives substantially in its original form, most famously in the spectacular view of the ruins of Fountains Abbey itself.
Fountains Abbey ruins is not only a key eye catcher in the garden scheme, but is of outstanding importance in its own right, being one of the few Cistercian houses to survive from the 12th century and providing an unrivalled picture of a great religious house in all its parts.
The remainder of the estate is no less significant. At the west end of the estate is the transitional Elizabethan/Jacobean Fountains Hall, partially built from reclaimed abbey stone. With its distinctive Elizabethan façade enhanced by a formal garden with shaped hedges, it is an outstanding example of its period.
Located in the extensive deer park is St Mary’s Church, a masterpiece of High Victorian Gothic architecture, designed by William Burges in 1871 and considered to be one of his finest works.
Criterion (i): Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey owes its originality and striking beauty to the fact that a humanised landscape was created around the largest medieval ruins in the United Kingdom. The use of these features, combined with the planning of the water garden itself, is a true masterpiece of human creative genius.
Criterion (iv): Combining the remains of the richest abbey in England, the Jacobean Fountains Hall, and Burges’s miniature neo-Gothic masterpiece of St Mary’s, with the water gardens and deer park into one harmonious whole, Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey illustrates the power of medieval monasticism and the taste and wealth of the European upper classes in the 18th century.

I like this harmonious arrangement despite initially worrying about the river being in the 'wrong' place, perhaps. I think the interest lended by the gravel bank, bottom right, manages to smooth it out a little. Also, the fence posts hemming in the plantation are a bit of a pain, but you don't have to go far in the Highlands before coming across an ugly reminder of human activity - alas.
If I'd hung around an hour or two this scene may have developed into something far better with the sun setting in just the right place to pleasingly light up the distant snowy slopes side-on. My priorities were elsewhere, however, & my date with Loch Dochard, before the light failed, took prominence.
This photos was took overnight at the Samseongsan(Mt.) Kalbawi Observatory next to Gwanaksan, a hiking course loved by Seoulites.
The Kalbawi Observatory is an amazing photo point overlooking the entire city of Seoul.
The Shinkyusha (sacred stable) has the same style as the stables that were found at the houses of feodal lords, in the shoin-zukuri style. The stable is not painted. There is a series of eight sculptures on the crossbar. These are sculptures of the Sansaru (the three monkeys). The monkey has been regarded for centuries as a guardian of horses that were stabled there. Therefore, the tradition was to keep a monkey in the stable until the Muromachi period.
The sculptures (Sansaru) of the monkeys were placed on the facade of the Shinkyusha. They form a set of eight panels and each panel expresses the way to live harmoniously and correctly, just like a picture book. The panels deal with concepts such as trust, friendship, love, independence, ambition, pregnancy and daily life. The most famous panel is the panel of the three monkeys Mizaru, Kikazaru and Inazaru. This panel portrays the moralizing message of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".

Historic Church ANC.....Architecture Gothic
The church was Anglican, named for St. Jude. It was built in 1871 and its murals were painted in 1936.
The church was named a historic site, honoured for the way it exemplifies the Arts-and-Crafts era: integrating art and architecture to create a "harmonious and humanistic whole," elevating hand-crafted work above machine work, and including elements of nature.

The Gate of Harmonious Interest (Chinese: 同濟門) is a gate and cultural landmark located in Chinatown, Victoria, British Columbia. It spans Fisgard Street, west of Government Street. Erected in 1981, it was part of the revitalization efforts of Chinatown by the City of Victoria and the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. The gate, standing at 38 feet high, is adorned with intricate red and gold decorations that represent themes of unity and harmony.
Two inscriptions on the gate, "To work together with one heart" and "To help each other achieve harmony," commemorate the collaborative effort between Chinese and non-Chinese communities in its construction and restoration. Flanking the gate are two hand-carved stone lions, donated by Victoria's sister city of Suzhou.
Designed by Mickey Lam, then the city's urban design planner, the construction of the gate cost $130,000, with contributions from the B.C. provincial government, Victoria's Chinese Canadian community, and other sources.

The Westfries Museum is a museum of regional history established in the Dutch city of Hoorn.
It was opened on 10 January 1880 and has been established in a monumental building dating to 1632. This building originally belonged to the Gecommitteerde Raden van West-Friesland en het Noorderkwartier, as a part of the Staten van Holland en West-Friesland, and later became a court. Until 1932 part of the building housed the kanton's court and part of its museum.
The museum has an extensive collection of paintings, silver objects, porcelain, historic firearms, objects of the schutterij and VOC objects. The collection is exhibited in 25 rooms, of which one is a style-room. In 1953, 15th century cellars were discovered under the building. These have been restored and are now used as exhibition spaces for archaeological objects from Hoorn and its surroundings.
Stepping through the boundary once again she found herself transformed, as if passing through yet another book. Perhaps this is what that was? After all she had been in the library. What did the writer have in store for her here?
Her adventures here took her to an ancient temple and of a forgotten tomb. She wasn't a thief.. but beings that he was already dead, she was sure he wouldn't miss it. After all this world was laden with creepy crawlies and things that went bump in the night. How else was a girl to protect herself?
Grasping the hilt she found a new felt power and strength, as if she had wielded the sword her entire life...As if it were made for her.
But she knew this couldn't be true.. Mermaids and Fairies and talking Cats did not exist in her world. But here they did.. where ever here was? She felt a tinge of homesickness..would she ever get home?

Today, the chrysanthemum is a quintessential Japanese flower.
Western-style spray chrysanthemums or yogiku are becoming popular as cut flowers and garden plants in Japan, but respect is still attached to traditional, disbudded types, the big blooms often duo toned, collectively known as kotengiku or antique chrysanthemums.
*Name: comes from the Greek "krus anthemonî meaning gold (bronze) flower.
Today they come in all colours.
*History: The chrysanthemum has been known since before 5000BC in a small yellow form.
*Origin: China and Japan.
*Colours: all colours from white to deep purple, bronze, lime green and brick red ñ except blue (which are artificially dyed for special events)
*Family: Relatives include Chamomile, Marguerite.
*Varieties: they come in a range of shapes and sizes, including spiders, spoons, buttons and blooms.
*Trivia and Facts: The Chrysanthemum is depicted on Japan's imperial weapons and flag. Japan also has a national festival devoted to the flower (9 Sept).
*Mythology: Some countries (such as Malta) think it is unlucky to have the flower indoors.
It is associated with funerals and All Saints Day.
*Medicinal: Feng Shui adherents believe the chrysanthemum brings laughter and happiness to your home. Teas are made with the leaves to help relieve from flue.

'The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms. '
- Auguste Rodin
It is a labour of love for me to find 'different' lighting and angles to bring out their unique beauty, the petals so tightly concentrated in the heart and cascading out in full glory.
And then, the smaller variety, in sprays, with curling petals!
Another aspect of Chrysanthemum, tightly packed, a true Autumn flower, built against rain, wind and cold?
The name "chrysanthemum" is derived from the Greek words chrysos (gold) and anthemon (flower)
Chrysanthemums, sometimes called mums or chrysanths, are flowering plants of the genus Chrysanthemum in the family Asteraceae. They are native to Asia and northeastern Europe. Most species originate from East Asia and the center of diversity is in China. Chrysanthemums were first cultivated in China as a flowering herb as far back as the 15th century BC.
The flower was brought to the Western World in the 17th century.
There are about 40 valid species and countless horticultural varieties and cultivars.
For many years, chrysanthemum signifies praise and admiration. A chrysanthemum is considered as a noble flower of the Chinese noble class.
Wishing you a day full of good light and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)

An old traditional loom...
...powered only by hands and feet. The pattern is only in the mind of the weaver and a total of harmonious movements, is needed for the textile to be created.
When weaving was a kind of art...!
