This photograph captures a tranquil moment by a riverbank, where nature and urban life coexist harmoniously. The scene is bathed in soft sunlight, casting gentle shadows on the water's surface. The lush greenery of the trees creates a natural frame around the image, drawing the viewer's eye towards the distant buildings that peek through the foliage.

The story behind this photograph is one of serendipity. I was walking along the river, lost in thought, when I stumbled upon this idyllic spot. The contrast between the natural beauty of the riverbank and the modern architecture in the background struck me as a perfect metaphor for the balance between nature and human development. I quickly pulled out my camera and captured this moment, hoping to preserve the peace and harmony I felt in that instant.

This photograph is a testament to the beauty that can be found in unexpected places. It reminds us that even in the midst of urban sprawl, nature finds a way to thrive and offer moments of respite. The interplay of light and shadow, the reflection of the trees on the water, and the subtle presence of human structures all come together to create a composition that is both calming and thought-provoking.

In the photograph of the street leading to the Grand Theatre in Grenoble, a harmonious blend of modern and historical architecture is evident. The street is lined with buildings that showcase a mix of contemporary designs and classic elements, most notably a grand mansion with imposing stone towers in a yellowish hue. This mansion stands out, capturing the essence of the city's rich history and architectural heritage. The atmosphere is dynamic, with several pedestrians making their way along the street, contributing to the lively urban scene.

The sky above adds a dramatic touch to the setting, heavy with dark clouds that threaten rain. This impending weather lends a sense of urgency and movement to the scene, as people hurry along, perhaps seeking shelter or going about their daily routines before the downpour begins. The contrast between the old and new buildings, the presence of the towering mansion, and the busy street life create a captivating snapshot of Grenoble's unique character.

Grenoble's history over the past five centuries is a tapestry of significant events and transformations. During the 16th century, the city experienced a cultural renaissance, becoming an important center for the arts and education. The French Revolution brought about political and social upheaval, impacting Grenoble profoundly. In the 19th and 20th centuries, industrialization fueled its growth, and it emerged as a hub for innovation and technology. Today, Grenoble is renowned for its scientific research and vibrant cultural scene, standing as a testament to its resilient and dynamic spirit through the ages.

Autumn & winter in the Swiss Alps.

For me the most beautiful time to be there. The light, the colors and the scent are unique. In addition, the temperatures are just right for a long hike. This year I experienced something wonderful on the very edge of my beloved country. Almost in Italy if you are not careful. We hiked around in the mountains all day long and returned to this jewel in the Alps towards evening, because we were there early in the morning as well. That morning it was very cold at the lake and the ice layer covered it completely. It was a sunny but cool day over more than 2000m hight. To my great joy, I saw a small opening in the ice at the end of the mountain lake. A gift from heaven as I felt it, because this resulted in a wonderful view and reflection of the mountains with the golden larks in the background. (The second wonderful thing was the fresh snow that lay on the mountains that day. ) My heart was full of joy and I could hardly believe my luck. I had never seen such a miracle of nature before. That evening we were all happy about the great moments that day in the Swiss mountains, which we were able to experience together. A delicious dinner together with a few other hikers rounded off this day as harmoniously as it can be.

I would love to share with you this special music from a swiss group who speaks the swiss language in this song. I tried to translate it in english. Sorry for the mistakes but I found it so special in this a bit difficult time for most of us. Listen to the music and words. Maby you find again a little happiness and a smile on your face in this difficult times.

At some point you always arrive. at some point it goes on again and again. you can stand so deep in the sauce. at some point you always arrive. a door opens somewhere maybe just a little crack. somebody likes something and somewhere a door opens. at some point happiness finds you. somewhere in a parking lot. suddenly it smells like home again. at some point happiness finds you. at some point you will know who you are. at some point you will know exactly where you belong. someone puts a second cup on the table. at some point you will know who you are. at some point happiness finds you. at any bus stop suddenly. it smells like home again. at some point happiness will find you.

This scene captures the vibrant essence of Mechelen, a historic city in Belgium, known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and cultural significance. The buildings along this pedestrian street showcase traditional Flemish architecture with ornate facades and intricate gables, reflecting the city's rich history. Mechelen was an important center of art and politics during the Renaissance period and retains its charm through these architectural gems, which blend Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles.

Economically, Mechelen thrives as a hub of trade and tourism. The bustling street in the image is lined with cafes and shops, indicating the city's reliance on local and international visitors. Historically, the city played a significant role in the cloth trade during the Middle Ages, and this legacy continues as Mechelen markets itself as a destination for unique crafts, jewelry, and artisanal goods. Today, its vibrant local economy combines traditional industries with modern business opportunities.

Culinary traditions are also highlighted in Mechelen's street life. The cafes seen in the image represent Belgium's renowned love for gastronomy. Visitors can enjoy regional specialties like Mechelen's famous 'cuckoo' chicken, paired with Belgian fries, or indulge in craft beers brewed locally. Dessert lovers often find themselves enchanted by the city's assortment of waffles, chocolates, and pastries, all of which are easily accessible in this lively district.

Overall, this street scene encapsulates the essence of Mechelen as a harmonious blend of history, culture, and modernity. The cobblestone square at the forefront evokes a sense of timelessness, while the vibrant activity and colorful shopfronts signal a city alive with energy. Mechelen’s charm lies in its ability to bridge the past and present seamlessly, offering both residents and tourists a rich and diverse experience.

Vischering Castle (German: Burg Vischering) in Lüdinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia is the most typical moated castle in the Münster (region) of Germany. This region has one of the highest German concentrations of castles, palaces and fortifications, Lüdinghausen having three by itself. The castle consists of outer defensive courtyard, defensive gateways, moat, drawbridge, main building and chapel. The sandstone walls, the red tile roofs as well as their reflection in the moat provide many harmonious views from the wooded surroundings.

Vischering Castle was built by Bischop Gerhard von der Mark to counter the second castle built by the Von Lüdinghausen family. It became the seat of the Droste zu Vischering Family. Droste is the local title for the hereditary noble administrators serving the Bishops of Münster. The moat is constantly replenished by a side-arm of the River Stever. The outer defensive courtyard contains the business and farm buildings. The main building is a horseshoe-shaped three-story structure with heavy outer wall. Its inner courtyard is closed off by the chapel and a lower defense wall. A castle keep is missing, having been removed during Renaissance renovations. Fire destroyed the castle in 1521. Rebuilding took place on the existing foundation. Windows and the addition of a large bay made the castle more liveable but diminished its defensive character. The whole site however retains the character of a feudal age moated castle. Damage from air attack during World War II was minor.

Vischering Castle houses the Münsterlandmuseum, an exhibit on knighthood for children, as well as a cafe-restaurant. It serves as a cultural center for Kreis Coesfeld. Visiting hours are provided in the first link below. Viewing the outside is possible at all times. The second link provides a more detailed chronology of the castle in German.

HMM !!!

The wine has a golden-green color. The rich, harmonious aroma of the wine is enhanced by hints of white fruits, peach, acacia, linden, and citrus. The taste of refinement and harmony. Light, refreshing, balanced wine with good structure and a pleasantly soft aftertaste. Chudove wine, like an aperitif. I enjoy it most when it is cooled down to 6-8 degrees Celsius.

The vineyards of Piedmont Langhe, Roero and Monteferato were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014.

Interestingly, the soils of these vineyards are not particularly fertile, and vegetables and grains are not grown there at all. But they are excellent for growing grapes, from which high-quality wines are then made, including the “wine of kings” - Barolo, one of the most famous Italian wines.

Walking through the streets, the modern and the old is juxtaposed harmoniously enough, after the building today, the mansion of another age but still attractive.

I must admit that the view is relaxing and harmonious, and bathed in a soft, rosy light - which are definitely a bunch of good ingredients for a good early morning shot - but what struck a chord with me was the bright wake left by the swimming moorhen. The bird was going her way, unaware of me, and in doing so she was leaving a shining wake - taking on the first lights of the day - a track for me to follow towards a deeper meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything - possibily something more meaningful than Fourty-two... :-)

I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

a.i. assisted art

heavily edited, enhanced, painted, layered and tweaked

My experience is that a.i.'s are still in their baby stage and the mistakes are such fun! Even have their own charm.

The needed editing is always an inspiring challenge.

Some a.i.'s really think out of the box 2.

I think that a.i's art and the artist have to find a harmonious balance that eventually empowers art.

The other extreme is that purists don't see it as art and judge it as not being art... not being hand painted!

And I agree: It's just so fascinating!

After all art is about self expression surely?

Amidst the lush, biodiverse expanse of Mocagua Comunidad Indígena, Colombia, I captured the Capped Heron (Pilherodius pileatus), a vision of poise and grace. Using a long lens with an extender, I was committed to a fixed aperture of f/16, a choice that sharply delineated the heron from the vibrant chaos of the Amazon backdrop. This setting yielded deep field focus, which crisply brought forth every detail of the heron’s striking features – from the creamy yellow of its neck to the deep black of its cap, and the surprising blue of its face.

The technical limitations became an artistic advantage, as the high aperture allowed for a comprehensive sharpness that enveloped the heron and its environment in equal measure. The result is a photograph that invites the eye not just to the subject but to its context, showcasing the harmonious coexistence of the bird within the complex layers of its habitat. For my fellow photographers on Flickr, this image stands as an example of how gear constraints can lead to unexpected, compelling beauty, a reminder of the dance between equipment, environment, and the wildlife we aim to immortalize.

Me, Dick, Franka and Thor. Harmoniously together.

As the sun playfully peeks through the windows of the Restored Traditional, it unveils a scene straight out of a whimsical dream. Within the elegant confines of the bedroom, brightly colored flowers and soft blues mingle harmoniously, casting a spell of tranquility in every corner. Vintage fabrics adorn the pillows and upholstery, adding a touch of nostalgia to the ambiance.

A warm fire crackles in the hearth, warding off the morning chill and infusing the air with cozy comfort. The room is awash with the delightful scents of flowers, incense, and floral teas, mingling with the irresistible aroma of strawberry flake pastries set upon the table and chairs. And there, nestled upon the comfortable bed, a little kitty awaits, hoping for a gentle pat and a moment of shared warmth.

It's a perfect morning to unwind in the company of furry friends, fragrant blooms, and steaming cups of tea, surrounded by the timeless allure of vintage charm. So, gather your friends, snuggle up with kitty, and let the soothing rhythm of morning bliss wash over you in this enchanting haven.

Jean Nouvel, architecte

A rock-like building with the air of a hill rising from the Parc de la Villette, the Philharmonie offers innovative forms. Its’ brilliant spiralling aluminium forms surrounding the central concert hall contrast with it elegantly- angled matt envelope, coated in a bird mosaic (340,000 aluminium birds) in varying shades of grey. The public can stroll across its’ 37-metre high roof, which offers a panoramic view, merging the city and its’ suburbs.

“In the word Philharmonic, one easily imagines a love of harmony. We play in successive harmonies, in urban harmonies. The Paris Philharmonic exists like a prestigious event which maintains the harmonious relationship with the Parc de la Villette, La Cité de la Musique and the Paris ring road.”

Jean Nouvel, architect

The weather has not been great lately for trying out my new vintage lens Industar61. Yesterday while there was a short window of no rain I ventured out to try to capture some images with the star/hexagon bokeh that this lens is capable of producing at f5.6 and f8. I was looking for compositions where the star bokeh looks in sync and harmonious with whatever the main subject is. These gorgeous pine needles seem to do the trick. Shot in strong wind I was worried I would not be able to get anything in focus, but did managed to get few images.

This impressionist painting beautifully captures the charm of a street scene in Siena, Italy. The composition emphasizes the tall, warm-toned buildings, which exude a sense of history and character. The earthy reds and ochres of the brickwork contrast with the softer stone tones of the neighboring structures, creating a harmonious interplay of textures and colors. The narrow street is slightly curved, drawing the viewer’s eye deeper into the image, as if inviting them to explore.

The tree in the middle ground, with its sparse yet vivid green foliage, serves as a gentle focal point amidst the architectural forms. Its delicate presence adds life and movement to the scene, softening the angularity of the buildings. The soft, diffused light, typical of the impressionist style, imbues the scene with a tranquil and nostalgic atmosphere, as if time has momentarily slowed down. The brushstrokes are dynamic and layered, giving the painting a textured, almost tactile quality.

In the foreground, two figures walk together, adding a touch of humanity to the quiet street. One wears a bright red coat, creating a striking contrast against the muted tones of the surroundings, while the other’s darker attire blends more subtly with the scene. Their inclusion not only adds depth and perspective but also evokes a sense of intimacy and everyday life in this historic setting. The painting captures both the grandeur of Siena’s architectural legacy and the quiet, poetic moments of its streets.

But for now, we can still soak up the magnificence of nature.

this work is taken from a photograph depicting a tropical beach with palm trees. I was struck by the cut of the image that creates a series of lines (palm trees) that form triangles and create a harmonious composition of the landscape. Personally I chose to make my own version with colored pencils and not monochromatic or sanguine as it was chosen by many who performed the year, I chose not to omit almost anything that would distract attention, given the harmony of the image. I used professional drawing paper from Favini 220 gr / m2 and colored pencils from Caran D'Asche Prismalo water-soluble series, but I chose to apply them dry. Thanks for any compliments.

I wish you all a happy and harmonious Christmas.
