Processed by: Helicon Filter;Thomas Bloch played his glass harmonica at Nottingham Contemporary 14th August 2010. T'was pretty damn awesome and here are some photos.
This was an unusual, perhaps unique, harmonica grouping. Billy Branch, Joe Filisko, Howard Levy, and the Windy City Trio all playing "Help Me" together at the "Harmonic Convergence" festival in Chicago. This is Howard's solo, and you can see Bud Boblink with the rest of his trio, holdin' down the bassline. Watching those three jump in with Billy Branch's band was really the highlight of the show, though I was pleasantly surprised by Levy's solo.
It was so pretty, but my internet wasn't fast enough and I didn't win the auction. It's probably just as well. I'd already bid more than 2x what I should have. :)
Zagras can never have anything nice.
Day eighty-seven/365. It may seem strange, but it's part of my strategy for stress reduction. I get together with a bunch of men, all of whom are at least twenty years older than I am. We all bring our harmonicas, plus the accessories we want to show off. We jam together, mostly songs from my parents' generation. We coach each other, sharing tips and tricks we've developed ourselves. None of them knows any hymns or contemporary praise songs. I know some of their music from my exposure to it when I worked in nursing homes.
But, we have a great time. I look forward to doing it again four weeks later. And, I forget the stuff that stresses me.

This special harmonica had it's own case and was
used on two tracks. It was modelled after old harmonicas
from way back. The "horns" were to amplify the sound
and each horn was for two holes on the harp.
Looked like a christmas door knocker.
dobroist Lloyd Thayer has a new recording out called Blues for Boston
a self release . It's ALL Blues , he is in the process of recording & releasing several other projects by the end of summer.
This time Lloyd brought up three guitars, a banjo and quite a few harmonicas.
Belongs to the Lloyd Thayer dobro man Set
he was quite into his own jam session and refused to let me lift him down from the pellet stove.......he was wearing his cow boots (rain boots) dad's snow hat and playing a harmonica for over 15 minutes!
this was my attempt to get some kind of bench monday shot
He was wearing what I would describe as a Doorman Suit? Cowboy boots. Porkpie Hat. Bob gets to wear the white hat!
Very inspired.

My favorite song was "North Country" (or is that "Girl From the North Country")? "Highway 61 Revisited" was pure genius too. "Hard Rain's a gonna fall"...I can go on and on.....Songs you've heard before, but arranged and performed in a fresh way. The whole show was amazing. We see many imitators, and those inspired by Bob, but rarely are we fortunate to see and have the real thing. The real thing. I cry just thinking about it.
