Gangamatas Gaudiya Matha London (The Bhakti Yoga Centre) was started by a group of ladies inspired by their spiritual master, Nitya-līlā-praviṣṭa oṁ viṣṇupāda aṣṭottara-śata Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmī Mahārāja. Kamala dd is one of them.
They started with nothing from a squat in London in the last decade before moving to a rented place in Plaistow shortly after. Subsequently, they moved to their permanent place in Walthamstow a few years ago.
The centre is run by brahmacarinis in accordance to the instructions of their spiritual preceptors by performing devotional service exclusively for the pleasure of The Divine Couple, Sri Sri Radha Krishna as propagated by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself in the 1500s.

Kavita Dwibedi is one of the most celebrated Odissi dancers of India. She is the daughter of Odissi maestro Guru Harekrishna Behera.
This guy actually approached me on the streets of Bath in an attempt to either convert me and/or get a donation towards his movement. He got neither but he did get a snap!
He told me his name is now Ameretti which he said means Nectar in Sanskrit. Hence my title which is also a homage to the 1980s Jesus and Mary Chain track. Kind of ironic - or synchronistic? - that there is Pret A Manger in the background - "ready to eat".
Ameretti is originally from Berlin in Germany and told me he has been a Hare Krishna for 4 years, and a monk for 2 of those years. Perhaps that was why he was wearing a white robe under his coat instead of the more normal orange you see them wear.
I asked him about the makeup he has on his face, and asked him if that was about the third eye area and he said in part it was, but it was more of a mark to remind him that the body was just a vessel for the soul.
He seemed surprised that I had heard of the Hare Krishna movement. I remarked that I regularly used to see them on the streets of almost every city, but they had seemingly fallen out of favour after the very public scandals surrounding their leadership/organisation along with other Eastern Swami sex and financial scandals. I asked him if he knew about that and whose lifestyle the money Hare Krishna devotees had collected allegedly really went to and he said none of it was true. He then asked me for a donation for "an orphanage" (as I had already declined to buy a book from him). I again politely declined.

Ask A Monk…….and he’ll Google the answer.
Google: universal fount of all knowledge; in such a small package as a mobile phone. I was amazed to see this monk using such a device, (I don’t really know why I was amazed, I just was), he was so engrossed in what he was doing on his phone he was totally oblivious of everything around him; he didn’t even look up when I took this picture.
He was seen on Market Street, Manchester City Centre, UK.

A little while back I went to a Bhakti/Hare Krishna festival with a friend doing a photographic project on their activities. It was a pretty nice spot for a retreat.

Twelve years ago I used a DSLR for the first time and, by Divine arrangement, I met and photographed the Hare Krishna devotees.

In this photo, Syamarani dd was reminiscing the events of her time with her spiritual masters, Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (initiating spiritual master) and Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja (instructing guru) as she related the memories of yesteryears of the Hare Krishna’s infancy in the Western world and to this day.
Her instructing guru nicknamed her, Syamarani and her initiating guru named her as Jadurani dasi. Both spiritual masters instructed her to be lead artist of their respective books as well as to preach throughout the world.

This amazing personality in her mid 80s is still travelling around the world preaching. Not only that but she even cooks in large quantities which is scrumptious.
Under the guidance of exalted Rupanuga Gaudiya Vaisnavas, Srimati Uma Didi has been studying the theory and practice of bhakti-yoga for over four decades. In her youth, she received the mercy of Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Goswami Maharaja and his eminent disciple Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Trivikrama Goswami Maharaja. In 1970, she accepted diksa initiation from her divine master Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Vamana Goswami Maharaja, also a disciple of Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Goswami Maharaja, and she began traveling from her home in West Bengal, India to the most sacred of holy places, Sri Vrndavan Dham, and receiving instruction on bhakti from Srila Vamana Maharaja and Srila Trivikrama Maharaja's illustrious godbrother, Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja. In 1986, Uma Didi renounced her family's home and took up permanent residence within Sri Kesavji Gaudiya Matha in Mathura, India, where she heard daily classes from Srila Narayana Maharaja for the next twenty years. Throughout this time, she has served as a source of instruction and inspiration for many sincere souls visiting the Matha with the aspiration to do bhakti.
On the order of her beloved siksa guru, Srila Narayana Goswami Maharaja, Uma Didi is preaching the message of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu around the world* even at her advanced age. In her classes on bhakti-yoga, Uma Didi imparts the knowledge of unalloyed bhakti that she received from her spiritual teachers without deviation. She has been universally praised for her unique ability to weave complex philosophical truths of the Gaudiya Vaisnava scriptures with simple modern examples to create an easily accessible and comprehensible subject matter for listeners of all backgrounds and experiences. Her vast knowledge and experience, in addition to her sparkling personality, make her instruction on bhakti-yoga simply a delight for her audiences.

This lovely fellow is drawn in chalk, directly outside Gopals Restaurant Melbourne. This an exquisite example of modern Australia. Established in 1980; currently the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Melbourne, it was started by the renowned internationally vegetarian master chef extraordinaire Kurma Das. It has been owned and operated by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) or commonly known as The Hare Krishna’s for the past 33 years.
