è impossibile pensare di fare da tappezzeria al rituale mattutino dei fedeli di Krishna. … qualcuno arriva e ti trascina nelle danze … e finisce che ti diverti da matti !!!

What remains of the forest near Ashcroft British Columbia. In August 2024, the Shetland Creek wildfire raged through the Venables Valley. Saranagati Village, a Hare Krishna community in the valley was evacuated due to the fast-moving fire. The villagers of this rural off-the-grid community practice bhakti and are followers of Srila Prabhupada. Some homes were lost, but many were saved. The fire left a huge scar in the local landscape. I've been in many wildfire areas, but I've never seen the landscape as black as this.

I'm cherishing light-filled moments, to absorb the fullness of the cosmos in this Summer Solstice season of brilliance.

Captured this pic when I was working for ISCKON magazine. Sun Salutation, the Surya Namaskaram is a daily morning ritual.

According to Vedic spirituality practice, the four months of raining season is also known Caturmasya. In these months, generally it is believed that the people in India fast and perform austerity. They fast from certain food on different months that is usually between July and October (varies according to the Vedic calendar).

In the last month of Caturmasya, it is known as Karthik. There is a pastime in this month that Mother Yashoda binds her son, Damodara's (Krishna) waist and tied Him against the mortar between two trees. The picture depicts the apprehension of Damodara as Mother Yashoda managed to catch Him after a long long time of chasing around the courtyard for breaking the butter pots and feeding the butter to the monkeys.

Also in this month of Karthik, devotees of Krishna will offer lit up candles and offer to Damodara throughout the entire month.

I was nursing a beer in a pub off of Regents Street when I heard a commotion out on the street. I stepped outside to have a look, and was almost run over by the rest of the patrons in the pub who ran outside, fell in line, and started dancing down the street behind a knot of Hare Krishna devotees who were walking along, pounding a drum, and chanting the Hare Krishna anthem.

I managed to get out in front of the horde and grabbed a couple of pics. Interestingly, many of spectators did not seem to be infused with the same spiritual enthusiasm that the pubsters showed. There's something to be said for the affect of beer on spirituality.

Rupa is 19 and is studying design in Insurgentes University. Soon, she is going to switch to the UAM Xochimilco (a very important university in Mexico) and continue her college education in design. When I see her close to the Fine Arts Palace, I was very attracted to get a portrait of her because of her beauty, her characterization like a "Catrina" (a very important symbol in the Day of the Dead in México) but with a very natural and organic style and because she was very focused taking pictures with his reflex camera. We talked a little and I notice Rupa is that kind of people who radiate a peaceful joy with the eyes. After the pictures I said thanks to her and good bye and she replied with a "Hare Krishna".

By the way, I think that joining to the 100 Strangers Project has been a very good decision, not only to improve my very bad photographer skills, but also because this is a exercise of consciousness to really understand that it's true: "Each person is a cosmic singularity", and in that way each one of us is a miracle and each person is beautiful. When I've been taking the portraits of strangers and sharing a moment with them and knowing something about their lives I can feel that I'm a little closer to be a better person.

About the portrait. I tried to put into practice some portrait concepts I read in some blogs, specially about playing getting a more luminous photo, a long distance of the background, a different angle. This was my favorite portrait of Rupa and have to say that I discover that even if there is not a very obvious contrast between the model clothes and the background you can get nice pics with the help of the blurred effect. Also, this was an opportunity for me to think different despite the nervous of taking photos of a stranger because in the place the photos were taken there was too many people and too many objects that didn't allowed me to get a portrait closer to the impression I had of Rupa: I wanted the background the less colored and with the less distraction possible, and I found it right in the sky. If you want to see other portraits of Rupa, you can visit: www.flickr.com/photos/ruinas_circulares/albums/7215765834...
