Our resident Snowshoe Hare showed up again this morning for a photo shoot. Since the last shoot, 10 day ago, the grass is much greener in our yard. With the sun shining, the Hare's ears look like they are lit up.
Natural History: A Collection of British Wildlife.
Just a few images of interesting characters we have met throughout our travels throughout the British Isles. Not so many animals as I would have liked but you can only take what is in front of you. Trust you will enjoy what I have posted.
These hares, along with the Snowy Owls, were bright spots for me in Manitoba's unusually harsh and snowbound winter of 2021/22.
A pair of Scottish Mountain Hares still in their winter coats sit among the brown heather near the shores of Loch Vrotachcan.
I had been out for a photoshoot of the sunrise and was just lay down at the sofa in the country house, than I discover Mr. Hare on our access road. Luckily I had the camera at the sofatable so i could take this picture true the windows. I got it printed and it has got its well deserved place on the wall.
I thought this image of Dusty (one of our two house rabbits) trying to keep her wild hair (hare) under control in the strong breeze in the garden would make a fitting upload to highlight the plight of Scotland's mountain hare. Please consider signing OneKind's petition to the Scottish Parliament to introduce greater protection, from indiscriminate, ruthless and mindless slaughter, for this iconic native species.
It should take only a minute of your time to show that you care for the mountain hare: www.onekind.org/campaigns/stop_the_mountain_hare_cull
Last photo of the hare series I made a few weeks ago. Fascinating animals but always shy, I had some luck this time.
A hare near the lakes at Schwandorf
This hare seemed quite unafraid of me even though it was aware of my presence. In fact, it kept getting closer to me as I was taking pictures. I eventually noticed a family of about 5 buzzards circling the area, who were probably getting all the attention of the hare and made it ignore me.
Mountain Hare - Saddleworth. Very cold day and not easy to get close to these beautiful animals. Shot taken at distance. Great respect for these mammals. I last about 4 hours they have to manage 24/7 :)
Back to the Hares!
The weather hasn't been great recently so opportunities with these guys haven't been as frequent. But they're still about and always exhilarating when they come close...
Great to get out and about while the weather is dry i came across this hare looking at me not moving checking me out lucky to get a shot of his eye
One of seven brown hares seen at the top of the Cotswold escarpment in open fields close to Cleeve Common on Tuesday morning.
