After hearing that Duracell would bring an oxyacetylene cutting torch, I let Jos Weyers have the honour of destroying the harddisk (and virtually everything else).
Job well done, I'd say.

"1æ ´ y MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
44 DAYS AND COUNTING
Well, another year has flown by. Our fridge is full of sponge art, our car full of baby seats, our house full of toys and our life full of happiness.
We are looking forward to christmas, as always a white christmas would be nice but only after we arrive at our destination. Although the scenery can be breathtaking so can the icy roads.
We hope to be arriving in Ashcroft sometime on December 23 or 24th. This depends on the roads etc.
Calgary has been offering us its usual weather for this time of year. We are awaiting the second snow fall. Weather forecasters try to predict our weather but are often apologizing for their forecasts. A four day forecast usually means four hours in Alberta.
We have both enjoyed the game of golf during this years season. To be perfectly honest, Stephen may have enjoyed it more. However, there is room to boast for me . We were fortunate enough to go off alone to Phoenix , Arizona in October. It was here that I was explaining to our partners that 105 was great for me today. With that comment they replied,"Oh was it that hot today." HA HA say what you will. WE SHALL RETURN.. As to the home owners along The Point at Southmountain, I am sorry for any damage I may have caused.
Santa will soon be calling in at our homes. I hope that he finds everyone healthy and happy. I also hope he finds my christmas list. Who thought of that silly idea of burning it!!!! Besides I hear you are not allowed to put that much paper in a fireplace .
I heard it mentioned the other day that it would be nice if the same people that came around your neighbourhood asking to clean your windows would extend their energies to Christmas Lights. We like to wait until the wind chill factor has risen to add a challenge. This way we can compare the breakage from one year to the next!!!!
Caylie and Colin are as cute as ever. Caylie is so excited this year, it helps to be a year older. Being able to open all Colin's presents as well may also be adding to the excitement. The other day she made some comment about pulling Santa's beard. Oh, won't he be thrilled to see us.
Caylie is in the" Why" phase. We sure have to have our thinking caps on these days. Perhaps a course in astrology would help. Gravity, stars, the moon. Music plays a big part as well as books. We make regular trips to the library, with Colin in tow of course. Colin prefers to eat his selections. It is for that reason we don't borrow pop up books. Besides, they don't provide enough ruffage.
We hope that christmas this year will be a happy one, with many wonderful memories.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Stephen, Joanne, Caylie & Colin Williams

Friendly reminder that you should make sure that you have your precious pictures backed up externaly.
Just yesterday after a blue screen for god knows what reason, Bitlocker in Windows, which I've used to "protect" my data, suddenly decided to enter a blue screen cascade that gave me the fuzzy feelings. Luckily, the data decrypted completely in the end, after plenty of spontaneous reboots.
Of course, like any good IT guy, I didn't have a backup.
This is what the inside of a hard drive looks like. All the data you save to your computer gets written on that mirror-like disk and is read by that record needle looking thing. Pretty cool, huh? :-)

For the lack of better blue abstract subject... after squeezing the brain out of my puny head, this is the best I could come up with.
Oh, this is for a really intense and exciting photo competition run by KL Flickr Meetup.
Abstract Blue?
Why is it an abstract? Because, I'm in person is such a complex and abstractive guy .. hahahaha (lame-o-meter just hit 1000)
What is so blue? Well, kinda use blue led light from my portable harddisk to draw my chubby face, small eyes, obviously not sharp nose, always smiling lips and elongated neck...
heheheh
what do you guys think?

This is the 160 GB hard disk from an Asus Netbook.
For a couple of years, my photo editing and organizing were done on the Asus 10 inch screen. Then I realized, this was not so great for my eyes, and moved on to larger monitors.
My Work for Macro Monday. HMM!
A sweet IBM 560. Circa 1995, purchased on ebay sometime in 1999. Windows 95, 12" 800x600 screen. External floppy, 6Gb harddisk, no optical drive, no ethernet or modem. A lot of trade offs, but on the other hand, it was pretty darn light.
Too bad it suffers from random shutdown syndrome. Took it to an IBM laptop specialist who yelled at me for taking it apart myself, then kept the laptop for 3 weeks but couldn't fix it himself either. Oh well, at least he didn't charge me.
Today I booted it up for the last time to make sure I wasn't leaving any personal data on it. Sometime this week, I'm dropping off a crap load of old PC junk at my local recycler.
Here is a dummy head found into a broken Imac G3 hard drive. I believe this is made intentionally to LOWER the capacity of the hard disk by 25%, maybe for industrial purposes. In other words, you purchased a disk but for the same price you could have had a bigger one... if the head was not missing ! I consider it as scandalous and ridiculous...
It's dead anyway, so let us look inside. 3.5" 15k RPM server grade Hard Drive. It seems like the heads was stuck to the surface so the drive could not spin up. Giving it a "push" actually made it work again! Not that I trust it in the long run - but at least I managed to read out the data. Lesson: Don't let you old backup harddrives rest for years - they have to be exercised on a regular basis.
Thats about 5 terabytes of the 10 terabyte array that was recently donated to Red Team. The rest is on its way.
I got once again a musical baton, but this time in english from Björn and tobstone. btw. busical batons suck ;-) but I'll use it to make my Sweden photoblog more famous. So, let's see.

Song Playing Right Now
Deichkind - Pferd im Stall (in English: dikechild - horse in the stable)
Five Songs I Listen to A Lot
The last days I was only listening to Deichking (you see a photo above). Them are sooooo funny! That is humorous phylosophical anarchy HipHop at it is best, trust me. But now the fife songs, all from "Nur noch fünf Minuten Mutti" (only five minutes more mommy) album:
1. Da wo (there where)
2. Devil's Fist
3. Tarantula In The Darkness
4. Dwen
5. La Playa
5 People to Whom I’m Passing the Baton
1. Scott
3. Johan
4. jasonwhat
5. Julien Faliu
But what does all this have to do with Sweden?
That's a great question. In 2002 Deichkind where on tour in Germany they didn't had a support band but an magician whith the mysterious name: Manuel Muerte and he has been a »honored member of the magic circle of sweden« this year!!!
