The handle of my washer broke off, leaving a short section of threaded rod remaining. To give a new handle something to grab on to, I extended the threaded rod with a long coupling nut. Two small jam nuts keep the new handle from turning out of the coupling nut. The new "T" handle is a section of welding rod welded to a bolt. It's ugly, but it works and hasn't failed since I put it in.
Union #36 rug loom; the crank handle is broken but the pieces are there. It's still usable, although could use repair with some wood glue and clamps.
I found this package on my front porch when I returned home from running errands the other day. Of course the first thing I thought of was the Traveling Wilbury song "Handle With Care". I laughed a little when I got a little closer and saw the big gash on the side of the package.

I seem to be into details of late. It's been a wet, grey day. While I was dusting the dining room, I was surprised by the light on the tea service despite the gloom.
The handle is damn near complete in its shape. I just have to finish the sanding with higher grits.
Notice that the guard has been ground down on the spine. I originally had it standing up from the spine but as I was working, I just become increasingly unhappy with it the way it looked, so it was changed.
Ignore the cluttered workbench :(
There are plenty of interesting ones around town, but I was particularly drawn to this one for some reason.
It can be found at 252 Flinders Lane, attached to a rather magnificent door.
The flag lowering ceremony at the American Military Cemetery near Cambridge in England.
I've seen this ceremony conducted so many times on TV and in films, but this was the first time I'd ever witnessed it at first hand: it was quite a moving experience to see the care with which the flag was handled.
The Cemetery commemorates the names of nearly nine thousand US military service personnel who gave their lives during WW2: 3,812 are actually buried here, and a further 5,127 names are remembered on Tablets of the Missing.
As well as ground forces, a great many of the casualties died as a result of flying missions over Europe, or at sea during the Battle of the Atlantic.
