handle antique door.

Took a photo of my cupboard door handle for this week's Macro Monday theme and found a little micro planet :-)

HMM!

This is the handle on a giant container in the summer palace. Wonder what the king used this for.

From the ReStore in Lawrence, KS - and as I have now developed a "thing" for wooden handled hammers the last few years - it came home with me

Markings are a bit hard to see - but you do have several images to chose from. Logo in form of

- HELLER (HORSE) Made in USA -

with the Made in USA in smaller letters and USA under "Made in". Horse logo totally obscured by a rusty patch

Going all in on this - puller the head, now soaking in veneffr. Will prime/paint. Handle has some splits - glued in some 1/4" dowels and hope to stabilize. Will sand and probably seal. Did not get a look at bottom of handle yet to see if there is a weight mark

Wedge is an "S" shape and will be reset, I filed off about 1/4 -3/8" of the top of the handle to get some newer wood involved.

A Roman knife handle from Syston, Lincolnshire (Report: No. 114/ LIN-536F87). Date: AD c.43-c.410. Found by David Barker. This object depicts an erotic scene involving two males and a female, and a decapitated head! Only a handful of erotic knife handles are known from Britain, and this is handle is of a new type. The significance of the decapitated head is unclear. Acquired by The Collection, Lincoln.

Mingle Media TV and Red Carpet Report host Tamara Krinsky were on hand for The Academy’s press preview of the food and décor for the 87th Oscars® Governors Ball, which will immediately after follow the Oscars ceremony on Sunday, February 2nd, 2015.

Once again, Academy governor Jeffrey Kurland, event producer Cheryl Cecchetto and master chef Wolfgang Puck are at the helm to make this event a memorable one. This winning team were on hand today as we got to see all of the food, beverages and decor unveiled.

Master chef Wolfgang Puck and Matt Bencivenga, chef partner of Wolfgang Puck Catering, have created an amazing menu with more than 50 dishes, from one-bite hors d’oeuvres to small-plate entrees including signature Puck favorites like smoked salmon Oscars, chicken pot pie with shaved black truffles, and mini American Wagyu burgers with aged Cheddar. There will also be a lobster “BLT,” beet latkes with pastrami duck and apple mustard along with dover sole with orange miso vinaigrette. The chef will be sourcing local organic produce, for dishes like parsnip soup with white chocolate, pears and 24k gold and artichokes with asparagus, fava beans, baby beets and citrus vinaigrette.

The pastry team will have Della Gossett, Spago’s executive pastry chef, Kamel Guechida, corporate director of pastry for the Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group, and Jason Lemonnier, Los Angeles pastry chef for Wolfgang Puck Catering. These chefs will create elegant desserts for the guests like an apple millefeuille with cider jelly, peanut butter strawberry lollipop, and milk chocolate panna cotta with raspberry and cherry. Don’t worry, there will still be the traditional 24k gold chocolate Oscars that we all look forward to trying out each year.

There will be more than 900 event staff managed by CEO Carl Schuster ensuring that every detail and request is handled with care, which is why this is Wolfgang Puck’s 21st year creating the menu for the Governors Ball.

Not to be forgotten, but we did also get to see this year’s “envelope” designed and produced by Marc Friedland which will be ever so important as they will bear the names of the Oscar winners, but like everyone else, we will have to wait until February 22nd, and see who the winners are on Oscar Sunday!

The handle is from a Minnie Mouse mug that I purchased in Disneyland when I went there as a kid. It is definitely over 35 years old. I kept the mug at my Grandma's house so I would have a special cup to use when we visited. She always tried to send it home with me and I explained that it was something I looked forward to using when I came to visit her. It now sits in my cupboard.

This door handle caught my eye whilst on a tour of Strumble Head Lighthouse. It opens a little metal door to give access to the outer balcony at the top of the lighthouse.

A couple of days ago, the dishwasher handle switch gave up again - Sugru wasn't rigid enough to hold its shape under regular compression and friction. So I measured out the critical dimensions, designed and printed off an insert to address the worn-down nubs.

Of course, once that was addressed the electronics died completely! They were already only half-working, but the previously-glitchy switches were probably what killed them in the end.

Replacement board(s) ordered. Once those arrive though, I think I'll reverse engineer the broken board and open source the results. Who knows what may result? ;-)
