Hand built earthenware with layered commercial glazes. approximately 5" in diameter.

Another custom bike and build for customer Gibbs.

A little handbuilt dish I made. I was testing the blue glaze, as I wasn't sure how dark/light it is, nor how compatible my clay is with it. Now I know :)

Handbuilt Ceramic Mask

Title: "Summer"

Dimensions: 7 1/2" H X 6" W

Description:

This lovely mask depicts the feeling of someone on a perfect summer day!

A smiling mouth, eyes closed in bliss (slits let the light in), and leaves and flowers 'washing' over the face.... in beautiful blues and greens and flowery colors - very delightful!

It is ready to be hung.

Of course it can also be displayed on a table or shelf.

I collect masks and like to put them in little groupings... but masks can also be grouped with other art.

This is a very rare hand made model in HO scale brass. An AT&SF (Santa Fe) 4-6-4 hand made by Kawai (Atlas/Kawai) in 1957 for Pacific Fast Mail (PFM). Only 9 were ever produced. This is number 8. The photos of the painted model were taken when I purchased it. The previous owner had painted it and it was in terrible condition. I removed the paint, cleaned all the parts and re-assembled it. Because it is so rare to find one of these, I did not make any alterations, other than re-soldering some loose details and cleaning the model to make sure is ran well. Some day, I may have it painted by a professional painter. Another one of these models can be seen on page 23 of the 2009 Brass Model Trains price and data guide - Volume 2 by Dan Glasure. Because these are so scarce, I only know of 3 left in existence, but there may be some still out there in other collector's hands. Each piece of the model was fabricated from brass stock and soldered together, this is seen clearly in the photos of the tender trucks and trailing truck.

Each piece of the model was fabricated from brass stock and soldered together, this is seen clearly in the photos of the tender trucks and trailing truck. While some brass model collectors will say that all brass models are "hand made" or "Hand built", I disagree, early models such as this one, were all hand fabricated, no castings or stamped parts. All brass models are certainly hand assembled, but, there is a big difference in "hand assembled" and "hand made" in my opinion. Approximately 55 pieces make up the hand made trailing truck in this photo, as opposed to a hand assembled trailing truck of the same type from a later model, which consist of roughly 8 pieces, all made from lost wax castings, then soldered together.

One of the last of these handbuilt luxury limousines, this 1992 DS420 was constructed specially for Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, who used the car until her passing in March 2002. It carries the Queen Mother's crest on the doors and the Royal blue convoy light on the roof as well as Police-style lights behind the grille. It also has an electric step to ease entry and exit.

It was once said: "the aristocracy buy Daimlers, the nouveau riche buy Rolls-Royce".

As a massive Rolls Royce fan I'm inclined to disagree, but I do agree that when it came to buying luxury cars when hitting the jackpot, the Daimler wasn't exactly everyone's first choice, which is something I can't understand why.

It can be said that their cars were just as luxury and capable as even the most top range machines Rolls Royce and Bentley could produce, and for Daimler, nothing topped their crowning achievement, the DS420.

The Daimler DS420 first entered production in 1968, being based on the chassis of the Jaguar Mk.X and being powered by a 4.2L Jaguar Straight-6 engine. The car was built largely to replace the earlier Daimler DR450, but also had a hand in seeing off the Vanden Plas Princess, and luxury version of the Austin Princess.

At the time of production Jaguar had just been nationalised into British Leyland, and by extension Daimler, which had been under ownership of the company since 1960. The DS420 was styled internally by the folks at Vanden Plas, who created probably the highest luxury car British Leyland had to offer, indeed locking horns with the Rollers of the day.

So beautiful and sleek was this machine that it made its way into the State Households of many European governments, including the British, Danish and Swedish Royal Houses.

But even though this car was truly magnificent, it never truly took off in the numbers that Rolls Royces were. Although bought off by aristocratic families and certain wealthy business executives, most of these cars found their way into the trade of Wedding Limousines, Hotel Transfer cars and, most prominently, Hearses.

Even so, the car did soldier on through the dark days of British Leyland, escaping the shoddy workmanship and striking unions that surrounded it, and managed to finish production in 1992 with 4,100 members built.

This one however is a truly fantastic example of one of these few remaining cars in motion. Although you may see a few still in the care of European Royal Families, private ones are very rare indeed. But the ones that continue to exist in private car will usually look as immaculate as this.

Or, if you're really desperate, invite yourself to someone's wedding, chances are one will show up there!

Modern, playful ceramic ware by Tennessee artist Susan Smith

52cm (C-T) seat post & 54cm (C-C) top tube

Sneak peek of handbuilt pieces. Clay rolled out thin, allowed to stiffen, cut into geometry according to a pattern, assembled. Then treated like the fragile, temperamental, demanding, disloyal, and spiteful thing it is.

I bought this early hand built brass model recently. It is un-restored, but runs very well. These early hand built models are extremely rare, with only a handful in the world, for me, they are an exciting find for my collection. This model is unmarked, therefore, I am not sure who the maker was, but, I suspect it was made by Tetsudo or Kawai Models sometime between 1950 and 1955. (Sorry for the bad photos, these were the best I could get using my iphone).

A few photos of an early hand built HO brass PRR GG-1 Electric. I believe this to have been sold through Tetsudo's shop, but, may have been made by Kawai Models for Tetsudo.

Just a few weeks left and then it's over.

If you've been meaning to go, now would be a good time.

The exhibit features bikes by Richard Sachs, Sacha White, Jeff Jones, Dario Pegoretti, Mike Flanigan, and Peter Weigle (me).

In addition to the 21 bicycles, there's a cool video that runs nonstop, a display of tools, shop ephemra etc. plus 25 or so New Yorker covers that feature the bicycle.

Handbuilt Ceramic Mask

Title: "Mask Series #3"

Dimensions: 7" H X 7" W

Description:

This is the first in a Mask with Beaded Eye series.

Funky and expressive, this mask portrays a half face, with a cut-out for an eye.

A dangling glass bead hangs in that empty eye space.

This mask is ready to hang, it is already wired - it can be hung on a wall or can be hung in front of a window so that the light shines through the eye (it would be easy for you to attach a clear fishing wire cord to hang it from the ceiling).
