Sea Shepherd has received new photographs and video footage of the slaughter of 61 pilot whales on the killing beach of Sandavágur on August 12 ,2015
The evidence indicates that there were a large number of pregnant and young whales in the pod. Photographs also show that a number of the whales had blotched skin, indicating they were diseased.
A vet, who was on the ground after the slaughter when the whales were being butchered, was told by a local that whales with blotched skin were “no good.”

Yes, I've succumbed to the large masses of people who have uploaded this same photo. Forgive my eternal damnation for committing such a heinous crime.
But really, can somebody help me with the details about registering to contribute? I've gone four years, but the idea of actually displaying has never hit me. It would be appreciated.
Thanks.

In April, 2013, the University of Georgia, Land Trust for the Little Tennessee, and a host of other partners organized Macon County’s, N.C.’s first Kids in the Creek event. It brought 8th grade students from across the watershed to Cartoogechaye Creek, to spend a day learning about the stream. During the course of the field trip, students rotated through four statins - water chemistry, hydrology, fish sampling, and aquatic invertebrate sampling. At the stream invertebrate station, the students collected animals, used simple keys to identify what they caught, and reflected on what the number and diversity of their catch says about stream health.
The watershed is home to the endangered Appalachian elktoe mussel, leading to the Service’s commitment to this educational event, specifically helping teach students about the diversity of life in the stream and the importance of the stream’s invertebrates, which includes not only mussels but also insects that form important parts of the stream food web and serve as indicators of stream health.

The graffitti-daubed western end of the Invercargill railway station building which has become something of a hang out area for youth's attending the YMCA youth centre now located in the disused station building.
The platform area has now also been fenced off to the public and one couldn't halp thinking that the platform facade of the station building would also have faced a similar fate if it hadn't of been.
'UNUSUAL' INVERCARGILL RAIL STATION FOR SALE
4 December 2015
The Invercargill railway station building is for sale, and an innovative idea is being suggested for its future use.
One of its architects, Mick Hesselin, says the disused building could become the hub for a relocated Kingston Flyer operation.
It is a well-known building, even though it never lasted long in its original purpose.
The railway station's stone was laid by New Zealand Prime Minister Bill Rowling in 1975. The building itself was opened by New Zealand Prime Minister Robert Muldoon in 1978.
Hesselin said the station building itself was used for only three years.
"I don't think it's had a chance to be used for many stories [to come from it]. It was only used three years. Muldoon opened it and then it closed by the next three years. It was a National [Party] flop," Hesselin said.
"They'd replaced an old wooden station, a very, very early station in Invercargill."
The arches of the station facing Leven St were designed to imitate the profile of a railway carriage, he said.
"It's got a red Brazilin granite floor in it which has never been looked after since it was built. It's a very interesting building."
Renovation of the station could be used to bring the Kingston Flyer back to Invercargill, Hesselin said.
"It would be an interesting project if it were brought by the Kingston Flyer. There's a group looking at the possibility of trying to get that established on the Bluff line."
Hesselin said the move to develop the station would be smart, considering the recent opening of Bill Richardson Transport World and other Invercargill attractions.
"It would boost Invercargill and boost Bluff and bring some interest into the city."
The station was an option the Invercargill City Council could consider, Hesselin said.
"It'd be wonderfully nice if the city council could look at the purchase of the building and look at the Kingston Flier project. It could be a terrific project for Invercargill."
Hesselin contributed to the restoration of Invercargill buildings including the Invercargill Courts and Yule House.
Professionals real estate agent and agent of the railway station sale Trevor Thayer said the YMCA owned the building, but would potentially lease it back.
Thayer said it was an "unusual" business opportunity.
"When a steam train comes to Invercargill they have to ask the YMCA to open the building to use the platform so the train can go through."
It had potential to be used for retail, Thayer said.
"I think the station is quite unusual and if a retailer wanted to use the building it could work. It's quite a big area and further car parking south from it on the south end of the building."
Invercargill architect Bob Simpson said the 1975 station was designed by Ford, Gray, Debbie and Hurd [architects].
The station used to be a busy part of the city, Simpson said.
"[The] area facing lower Esk St was the bus station. Invercargill buses used to stop there and it used to be used for trains and buses."
The last scheduled passenger service train to arrive at the station was the Southerner in 2002. - The Southland Times

Patricia Sullivan and NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous Discuss Lift Every Voice
March 25, 2010, 6:30pm – 7:30pm
Ten years in the making, Patricia Sullivan's 2009 book, Lift Every Voice: The NAACP and the Making of the Civil Rights Movement, is the first major history of America's oldest civil rights organization and destined to be a classic in the field. Founded in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP, got its start as an elite organization dominated by white reformers at a time when segregation had triumphed in the South and the color line was tightening its hold in the North. By the end of World War I the NAACP had become a mass-black membership organization reaching from Boston to Los Angeles and into the Mississippi Delta; after World War II it had become synonymous with the freedom movement itself.
Sullivan unearths the little-known early decades of the NAACP's activism, telling startling stories of personal bravery, legal brilliance, and political maneuvering by the likes of W.E.B. Du Bois, Mary White Ovington, Walter White, Charles Houston, Ella Baker, Thurgood Marshall, and Roy Wilkins. The book then moves into the critical postwar era when, with a string of legal victories culminating in Brown v. Board, the NAACP knocked out the legal underpinnings of the segregation system and set the stage for the final assault on Jim Crow. Lift Every Voice is an epic narrative of struggle against injustice and lays a new foundation for understanding the modern civil rights movement.
The Center for American Progress and the Progressive Book Club are pleased to discuss the NAACP's historic achievements and its vision for future civil rights activism with author Patricia Sullivan and current NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous.

nrhp # 79003796- The Hudson–Athens Lighthouse, sometimes called the Hudson City light, is a lighthouse located in the Hudson River in the state of New York in the United States. The light is located between Hudson and Athens, closer to the Hudson side. Constructed in 1874, it marks a sandy ridge known as Middle Ground Flats and also acts as a general aid to navigation of the river. The station is built on a granite caisson with a unique shape designed to protect it from ice floes and river debris. The dwelling is constructed in the Second Empire architectural style,[4] with a mansard roof. It is considered to be virtually a twin of the Stepping Stones Light in Long Island Sound, which was constructed just a few years later.
The station's beacon was originally lighted by Henry D. Best, the station's first lightkeeper, on November 14, 1874.[5] It was upgraded to a fifth-order Fresnel lens in 1926, and the station was fully automated on November 10, 1949.[6] In 1967, the Hudson River Valley Commission, led by Nelson A. Rockefeller, suggested that certain lighthouses owned by the United States Coast Guard be turned over to not-for-profit historical groups to ensure their preservation and upkeep. Hudson–Athens was the first station to be tried through such a program, and on February 15, 1984, a 20-year lease was signed between the Coast Guard and the Hudson–Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society (HALPS).[6] In 2000, title to the station was turned over permanently to HALPS.[5] Today, the Preservation Society conducts occasional tours of the station, which is being restored to its condition as it would have been in the 1930s.
