A nice haul of halibut, caught while fishing with family members in Cook Inlet, offshore from Anchor River, Alaska.

The beer batter was good and chips already salted. I think there should have been more coleslaw - but without the lettuce and and much less runny dressing. I don't actually need tartare sauce or ketchup - it all tastes fine without either.

The basil in the sauce was a bit too overpowering. Couldn't really taste the halibut. I wonder if sea bass would've worked better.

The first dish crafted from the Susan&Eric-caught halibut I proudly won on Halloween.
Baked; over a bed of spinach with lentils and a salsa of nicoise olives, garlic, tomato, capers, and parsley
Fish Course:
- poached Atlantic Halibut, PEI Mussels, caramelized Brussel Sprouts, Chinese broccoli, black garlic, microgreens.
Another dish influenced by Chef Michael Anthony and food of Gramercy Tavern in NYC. This is not an exact replica of a similar dish at GT, however:
- halibut was slowly poached in unique extra virgin olive oil, served with Chinese broccoli and black garlic sauce, with an addition of caramelized Broussel sprouts and Prince Edward Island mussels.
This was my favorite plate of the entire dinner.

Back in the day when fishing was good...I guess?
This is a picture was hanging in a friends sisters house. I was amazed at the size of this fish. If you have ever been here fishing halibut you know that this is quite a catch. Maybe a little tough but still and amazing catch.
Halibut can grow to a whopping 600 lbs. Read more here.
The largest halibut on record. This one actually looks bigger than that one!
A halibut is a type of flatfish from the family of the right-eye flounders (Pleuronectidae). This name is derived from haly (holy) and butt (flat fish), alleged to be called so from being commonly eaten on holy-days. Halibut live in both the North Pacific and the North Atlantic oceans and are highly regarded food fish.
The Halibut is the largest of all flat fish, with an average weight of about 11 - 13.5 kg (25 - 30 lb), but they can grow to be as much as 196 kg (431 lbs). The Halibut is blackish-grey on the top side and off-white on the underbelly side. When the Halibut is born the eyes are on both sides of its head, and it swims like a salmon. After about 6 months one eye will migrate to the other side of its head, making it look more like the flounder. This happens at the same time that the stationary eyed side begins to develop a blackish-grey pigment while the other side remains white. This disguises a halibut from above (blending with the ocean floor) and from below (blending into the light from the sky).

We were hungry for some seafood, so we hopped over to our favorite fish market. The result: pan fried Alaskan Halibut garnished with a broth from white wine, leeks, mushrooms and longneck clams. Yum!
Halibut makes one of most delicious baked seafood recipes to have on special occasions. This wonderful fish has little oil and holds no intense flavour of its own.... docs.zoho.com/writer/published.do?rid=z1g20241027dc38bb4a...
this is a photo of the giant halibut caught at Alice Arm, over 300 pounds

I simply took a picture of the print.
Shaped like a steroidal flounder, with varied mottled coloring on top side, white underbelly, no scales. Underside of tail bears a few dark brown markings unique to each fish, much like whales carry unique markings one their tails.
