Something a little different from my usual bird photos.

A group of anglers caught a huge halibut off the coast near Bolungarvík (my hometown) yesterday. I went down to take some shots for the local papers.

The halibut measured 248cm long and weighed 219kg making it the heaviest caught by an angler in the world. The fisherman who caught it, Günther Hensel from Magdeburg, Germany, said it was the biggest fish he'd ever caught. It took 135 minutes to haul it in and the four men on the boat were unable to bring it aboard. They managed to tie it to the side and bring it to port.

The entrance to the small community of Halibut Cove which sits amongst the shoreline across Kachemak Bay from the town of Homer,a real little piece of heaven awaits on arriving here!
