This was next to the a cave we visited in Ha Long Bay. Due to an early storm, all boats arrived here at the same time so they were all fighting for a bit of space.

In 1896 Ha Ling, a Chinese cook for the Canadian Pacific Railway was bet 50 dollars that he could not climb the peak and plant a flag on the summit in less than 10 hours. According to the Medicine Hat News of October 24, 1896, he started the ascent at 7:00 am and was back in time for lunch. As nobody believed his story, he led a party of doubters to the summit where he planted a much larger flag beside the original, this one visible to the naked eye from Canmore. The townsfolk referred to the mountain as Chinaman's Peak in his honor.

The name Chinaman's Peak did not become official until 1980 Later, in 1997 it was renamed Ha Ling Peak as the term Chinaman was viewed as derogatory. Discription from Wikipedia.

In May 1816 this charming, elliptical arch bridge opened to offer passage via its timber gangway to any Dubliner willing to pay a ha’penny, the exact price of the then redundant ferry and payable to William Walsh, ferry owner and alderman of the city. He retired his leaking ferries and was compensated with £3,000 and the bridge lease for one hundred years..

.

The first pedestrian bridge to cross the Liffey, it was a welcome relief for Dubliners accustomed to vying with horse, carriage and cart in an era before any demarcation between vehicle and man on the public highways or bridges. It retained its position as the only pedestrian bridge to span the river until the opening of the Millenium Bridge in 1999. .

An estimated 30,000 pedestrians cross the bridge every day..

The Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu in Vietnamese and 文廟 in Chinese) is a Temple of Confucius in Hà Nội, Vietnam. The temple hosts the Imperial Academy (Quốc Tử Giám, 國子監), Vietnam's first national university. The temple was built in 1070 at the time of Emperor Lý Thánh Tông. It is one of several temples in Vietnam which is dedicated to Confucius, sages and scholars. The temple is located to the south of the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long. The various pavilions, halls, statues and stelae of doctors are places where offering ceremonies, study sessions and the strict exams of the Đại Việt took place. The temple is featured on the back of the 100,000 Vietnamese đồng banknote. Just before the Vietnamese New Year celebration Tết, calligraphists will assemble outside the temple and write wishes in Hán characters. The art works are given away as gifts or are used as home decorations for special occasions.
