D&H 415 is on the head end of a consist to lead a Northbound out of Oneonta, NY on August 9, 1980......except it didn't happen. I was excited when it appeared that this was going to lead, but then at the last moment the crew added D&H 409 to the head end. Since 409 was still in LV red, I was even happier than if the 415 had led. We chased it all the way to Richmondville Hill and then bailed because they met a Southbound which we then turned our attention to. The Southbound was led by D&H 7404, and to this day I still can't figure out why I did not stick with the 409 on the Northbound.

We used to get a lot of cab rides on the D&H trains that were getting the power fueled at Hornell, NY. On July 9, 1978 I am in the cab of an N&W unit, with D&H 7413 leading, and about to head down to the fuel racks. One of my friends is in the unit ahead of me.

This was the view looking out of the window of D&H 502 as it switched the yard in Oneonta, NY on July 30, 1978. FA Tower is behind the units and N&W geeps are parked to the left.
NS 202 heads up the H-Line at Troutville, passing the N&W CPLs guarding the siding. These intermodals were moved off the H-Line to the Southern via Lynchburg a few years ago.
In late 2009 & early 2010 the B&H 422 was on the LA&L. On Febraury 8, 2010 the 422 & LA&L 425 pull Barilla Pasta empties into a short siding in Avon, NY. The crew would then grab some loads from the tracks at far right and spot them at Barilla. After that is done they will add the empties to their train and head to Genesee Jct.
The Citroën H Van, Type H, H-Type or HY is a panel van (light truck) produced by the French automaker Citroën between 1947 and 1981.
It was developed as a simple front wheel driven van after World War II. A total of 473,289 were produced in 34 years in factories in France and Belgium.
Now trés chic when converted to cafés or used as promotional vehicles.
Stonehaven`s water Carrier is seen on the outskirts of Musselburgh (approx 125 miles from its home station) replenishing its tank from a hydrant while attending a 3 pump and ALP fire at a recycling centre on 07/11/20. This was sent as the nearest water carrier at Larbert is current off the run.
The D&H guys were always friendly. Engineer Walt Forsyth and brakeman E.A. Santanna, with an Oneonta Yard switcher, pose for a photo on the hot, hazy, summer day of July 22, 1978.
