Happy five year anniversary Goh! It's been five very productive years filled with fantastic mocs(over 3000!) made by builders from all over the world. Such a milestone needs to be celebrated, like with a new logo! And of course there will be challenges with fun prizes as well. On to the next five years!

We were all challenged to create a doll based on a card. I forgot to take a picture of my doll . I'll rectify that later.

I think this may be one I keep coming back to for editing, i'm still not 100% happy with it but I could spend hours going backwards and forwards and realising I was back where I started. Going to also try it in b&w.

OLCC & the Legislative Joint Interim Task Force on OLCC hosted four panes of experts on the Economic Impact of Oregon's Craft Beverage Industry. Two panels featured representatives from Oregon’s craft industry leaders and various boards and associations that represent each of the industries, beer, wine, cider and spirits. The presentations accentuated how the various industries are tied together as an economic cluster with opportunities for growth among all parts of Oregon. The Oregon Wine Board reported that Oregon’s wine economy has a $2.7 billion statewide impact. The Oregon Brewers Guild estimated the economic impact of local brewers is $1.6 billion.

The other two panels addressed workforce opportunities and industry development in other sectors such as agriculture, tourism, marketing, and hospitality. The Oregon Distillers Guild cited the high quality of raw ingredients grown in Oregon and the thriving foodie/cocktail culture as contributing to local success. The Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association reported that both Oregon products and Oregon bartenders have gained national notoriety. Tourism generated $9.6 billion in visitor spending in 2013, according to Travel Oregon.

Front cover of the 1972 Preston Guild Official Handbook and Programme. Note the price 20p, for 147 pages. The 1992 guide was £4.95 for 99 pages. I wonder what will be the price and how many pages the 2012 guide will contain. I would think £10?

Guild House is an apartment building for the elderly, at 7th & Spring Garden. It's one of those interesting bits of architecture that you could pass by a million times and never realize it's there, but in its day it stood apart from the prevalent Modernist towers that were rising up around the city. Designed by Philadelphia-based architect Robert Venturi in 1964, the place still stands out for its unconventional use of conventional elements, such as its large arched window, and its single column obstructing the entance. Interestingly, a giant TV antenna sculpture used to rise off the roof, front and center as sort of a flippant symbol of the elderly who reside there... and spend so much of their time in front of the television.

Sculptors Guild addresses a timely theme with diverse works

New York City-based Sculptors Guild, celebrating 80 years as one of the first artist-run nonprofit organizations in NY, is thrilled to present “American Twist,” a group exhibition of members’ small works and installations at Antenna Gallery, 3718 St Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA 70117, from March 11- April 2, 2017.

In this unprecedented presidential election year, the Sculptors Guild collective chose the theme “American Twist.” The works reflect the thoughts and visions of 37 member artists on the subject of America now. This work was exhibited at the Guild’s 9th annual exhibition at Governors Island, NYC, and has traveled as an artist exchange with Antenna Gallery.

Many of the works were created expressly for “American Twist” and contain a subtle or powerful punch. Symbols of America are transformed into meaningful comments on current events, often evoking the contentious presidential race. One theme that reverberates throughout the entire show is the repetition of symbols that have been twisted, altered, and refashioned to make salient points.

The range of work in the exhibition reflects the diversity of Sculptors Guild membership, revealing remarkable combinations of materials and techniques, from traditional wood and metals to neon and 3D prints. Guild members designed their work to be travel-sized—fitting specific parameters—in preparation for this exhibition in Louisiana.

About the Sculptors Guild

The mission of the Sculptors Guild is to promote, encourage, and serve as an advocate for sculpture, and to make contemporary sculpture a relevant part of the culture by bringing sculptural experience directly to the public. The Guild’s illustrious history dates back to its founding in 1937 and includes notable sculptors such as Chaim Gross, Louise Nevelson, David Smith, and Louise Bourgeois.

Sculptors Guild actively continues its mission today as a nonprofit organization based in New York City with a professional membership of acclaimed sculptors of diverse aesthetics. The primary goal of the organization remains the promotion of sculpture and sculptors through exhibitions and educational outreach programs.

The Guild Theater in downtown Portland. This 425-seat single screen theater was first commercial, then run by the Northwest Film Center (to show foreign and independent films). In the future, it will be a parking garage. {sigh}

"The building was easy to find. It has a big sign on the front announcing that this is in fact Guild House. The red all-caps, sans serif type pops off of the white façade. After this moment of recognition passes, though, the most striking thing about Guild House is how boring it is. It stands unremarkably on a desolate stretch of this cross-town artery amongst vacant lots and a scruffy janitorial supply company. The white paint on the sign is peeling, revealing some rust. It isn't particularly tall. It isn't set back dramatically from the street. Several of the windows are papered over. There are some mattresses abandoned in the lot. There is nothing grand or impressive about it. Considered in a vacuum, the building is completely ordinary and even kind of ugly."
