Adding the Able second stage, from the Navy's Vanguard space launcher, let the Air Force boost test models of re-entry vehicles - some with mice as passengers - to higher speeds and altitudes. This second stage housed the vehicle's telemetry system, the inertial guidance system, and the autopilot. Adding a small, solid-motor third stage produced America's first deep-space launcher. Thor-Able I vehicles made America's first attempts to reach the Moon with unmanned probes in 1958. Other variants launched a number of historic satellites.
The Thor-Able was an American expendable launch system and sounding rocket used for a series of re-entry vehicle tests and satellite launches between 1958 and 1960.
It was a two-stage rocket, consisting of a Thor IRBM as a first stage, and a Vanguard-derived Able second stage. The Thor-Able II was used to launch the Transit 1A navigation satellite.

With guidance and help from their parents and teachers, students in Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids put their faith, imaginations and creativity to great use as they celebrated All Saints Day, Nov. 1.
Third graders at Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHM) served at Mass...greeting, lectoring, singing in the choir, presenting the gifts, altar serving AND...as is tradition, each third grader created an image of a saint of special meaning to them. Each raised his/her saint's image when the name of the saint was sung during the litany of Saints.
IHM's fifth graders studied a particular saint during the month of October and then used different art mediums to depict them. November 1, the display of saints began in what the school named "IHM Saint Art Prize". Parents, students and staff members toured the fifth grade "studios" and heard from the artists about the saint they studied and their depiction. Prizes will be awarded Nov. 4. Before I began processing this photo, I really wanted to draw attention to the two subjects' shadows. In order to do so, I firstly created a new adjustment layer with a black/white gradient map. I then upped the contrast slightly and created a vignette border to draw emphasis towards the subject matter. I didn't do a full vignette because it didn't work well with the white light above the trees. Hopefully this doesn't create a feeling of imbalance...

Given FDA’s new guidance on risk‐based monitoring(RBM), there has been a lot of interest on identifying critical data points, drafting RBM plans, and executing RBM. TransCelerate, which is a consortium of biopharmaceutical industry personnel, issued a position paper to assist biopharmaceutical Sponsors/CROs with defining RBM activities; nonetheless, due to the level of subjectivity in clinical trials, clinical operations personnel seem to exhibit a level of confusion, particularly around interpreting risk and executing centralized monitoring.
