I like Greg Brown ,a folk singer from Iowa, and one of his songs is " I don't want to have a nice day" so after doing this one, I looked at it I thought of the song. His face says it all.
Week 3 of 52
This week I have not been able to do anything inspiring photography wise. Unlike most pet owners who get loads of photos of their beautiful pets, Geezer has a tendancy to either get grumpy about it or lick the lens. I spent several evenings this week convincing him to relent and this was the best I got.
He didn't seem to thrilled about me taking pictures of him, but at least he came out of his shell and posed for me! He eventually decided that he had enough of me when ran away from me as fast as he could. He moved pretty fast for a tortoise! Poor fella!
The grumpy guy is a Gopher Tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus), a species threatened by habitat destruction and predation . Gopher Tortoises are often viewed as a keystone species, as they provide homes for 360 other animal species with their burrows.

The more I looked around from the roadway on highway 290 while I was driving to Texas from California, I started appreciating the raw beauty of things. Natural things. Non-manicured, no parks and recreation facilities crew managed, just cultured and weathered by pure exposure. I missed this, the character is somewhat lost when a tree isn't free to grow into itself.
This may be a good life lesson about all the manicuring and polishing we maintain of ourselves, to "better" ourselves. But look at how dramatic and interesting this tree is compared to others.
I call it grumpy, but not in a bad way. Like that old person who's got a lot to say about how it's all changing, and it is all changing. Just imagine how much?

I had my little sister make a grumpy face for this picture because I thought it would push across some of her personality. Editing is similar to my other photos and includes a vignette, colorized hue layer, texture layer, and other minor adjustments.
Again, I like that my sister brings a whole new spectrum of age into my concentration. I would have liked to maybe have a more appropriate background or maybe some props to convey that these pictures are supposed to be from a certain time period.

I'm listening to dubstep while I edit these so... yeah there will be some discord as this moment wears on, LOL. Poor Vale gets messed with. I like this shot though. He looks relaxed but like he's just waiting for his peace to be interrupted. Why can't he just be grumpy and left to himself :sigh. Poor thing.
