One week after Sebastian Albrecht set the single day record of 13 times up the Grouse Grind on Grouse Mountain, I matched my own single day record of 1 time up the near vertical 2.9 km workout using steps made from rough logs, roots, stones and railway ties.
Between the 1/2 way mark and the 3/4 way mark on the Grouse Grind, there's an overgrown trail off to the right where you can get a spectacular view (would be better on a clearer day) of the city from a rock face. There are no views from the Grind itself, so these side trips will wreck your time if you're a true Grinder -- which I'm not!

Grind For The MindGrind For the Mind – Saturday sept 06
secure.e2rm.com/registrant/LoginRegister.aspx?eventid=149...
Last year over 100 people braved the weather and hiked Grouse Mountain for the inaugural Grind for the Mind in support of Mental Health Services at Richmond Hospital. Through the support of sponsors, Ampri Group was able to raise $30,000 for Richmond Hospital Foundation!
This year, we’re trying to engage the larger community to get involved, bring awareness to mental illness and raise funds for an important cause. The funds raised through this event will go towards developing an innovative Family-Centred Model of Care in the Mental Health Unit at Richmond Hospital. This new model will help families in supporting and promoting the wellness of their family member affected by a mental illness.

Not much running done at the top of the Grind, even in a race. Personally I use these rope railings to haul myself up most of the last 1/4 of the Grind.

The lone male, Marty Lazaski on the far left, did well, finishing 12th overall.
At the far right is the fastest female Grinder Leanne Johnston and 3rd from the right is 50-something Chris Beneridge of North Vancouver, another non-elite female runner who finished really well, coming in as the 7th fastest female Grinder.

Did the Grouse Grind. It was tough, but very fun and rewarding at the same time. Too bad it was cloudy that morning. PS: View large. :)
60-something Freda Karlowee of Burnaby did the Grind in just under 1 hour and 40-something Carrie Graham of Vancouver did it in just over an hour.
