The charismatic Southern Ground-Hornbills (Bucorvus leadbeateri) are considered internationally as 'Vulnerable' throughout their range in Africa by the IUCN, but within South Africa they have been classified as 'Endangered' , with their numbers outside of formally protected areas still declining. They are culturally important as the ‘thunder' or 'rain’ birds. (Kruger National Park, RSA).

On the 23rd of June I went to Kananaskis with a friend. It was great to have company for the day.
We had hoped to see a bear or two. That did not happen but we enjoyed the scenery, the wild flowers and any other critters we came across.

An old New England Cemetery in Yarmouth, (Cape Cod) MA captured with the Fuji XT-1.
The side lighting and the lichen growing on the old stones is what made this shot interesting to me with its shadows and textures.

Ground Woodpecker, Sani Pass, KZN, South Africa. The Ground Woodpecker is worldwide one of three woodpecker species that is totally independet of trees.
