Common Ground Dove ~ Columbina passerina

The River Ver in Hertfordshire is a chalk stream and has cut, modestly I should say, into the surrounding limestone - just enough to create a path through the Chiltern Hills, and enough for the Romans to build a road here connecting London with the North. The history of the village of Markyate is entirely shaped by this road (and its successors) and all the functions relating to the transport of goods and people. Some houses such as these ones in the foreground have crept up the flanks of the river ("Pickford Hill" in this case), but most stayed down in the valley ground. Up on the hills you would find farms and agriculture. It is also true that small industries have moved in - together with lots of interesting people who decided to leave the big city.

While sunbathing in a 'hoyo' , one of the horseshoe shaped stone windbreaks that are on many beaches in Fuerteventura, we were visited by a family of Barbary ground squirrels .

What's left of an old farm south of Winslow,IL.In looking at old historical views of this property, the old barn was gone by 1996,the large farmhouse was tore down in 2010.The concrete foundation that's left of the barn still houses old milk cans...

Now what! This newly fledged Barred Owlet didn't quite make his target to another branch and flapped all the way down to the ground for a soft landing close by. Looking a little confused and also looking pleased with his move! .... He did figure things out and after hopping around to a couple low stumps ect... he made it up into the trees. As did his other 3 siblings when they fledged.

These do not grow on a vine. They are individual plants each with a half dozen or so blooms. They dot the floor the woods like wildflowers in a field. thanks for the look and have a great evening.

Nature's Colors

A large raptor around 55-70 cms tall and weighing around 1.5 - 2.4 kg and found throughout the year in India. They are probably the smallest of the 9 species of vultures found in India. The birds are very distinctive and easily recognizable unlike some of the other vultures which are confusing to id.

This one is an adult with the full white plumage and yellowish face and beak. Immatures tend to be totally brown with a greyish face. The birds are often seen around carcass dumpyards or in the deserts where dead cattle / animals are lying rotten. In our Rajasthan trip last week, we sighted 100+ of them all around the state - they are quite common there. In fact, Rajasthan has 7 of the 9 vultures found in India. Like most vultures, this is quite shy of people, but many a time, we found very close to the nomad settlements perched on the poles or walking around on the ground.

Thanks in advance for your lovely feedback and views - much appreciated.

Yes, a groundhog is a type of squirrel. Groundhogs are the largest members of the squirrel family, Sciuridae. They are also known as woodchucks or whistlepigs.

“You’re my favorite subject, Love. I’ll start with your eyes. I fell in love with those first. One look was like a punch to the gut. You have these ageless eyes on such a young face. I just knew that you had seen bad things, and from the start, I knew that you could understand pain. Understand feeling hopeless and helpless and alone. I fell in love with your eyes first because I looked into their depths and saw the other half of my soul.”

I was real excited to get head-on shots of this Killdeer. They are very noisy so he gave me some warning as I was shooting some Sanderlings on the ground. I got a series of 7 or 8 shots, all in decent focus.

Have to use the Flip Screen to get these Shots.

Torii gates are erected at the entrances to Shinto shrine to symbolize that the ground inside is sacred. As you know, Fushimi Inari Shrine situated in Kyoto, an ancient capital of Japan, is extremely famous for its thousands of red-lacquered torii gates.

I searched for the similar location in Tokyo and finally reached to Sannou Inari Shrine in Chiyoda-ku, where I could enjoy a scenery of torii gates like that of the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto.

It is unbelievable that such a mysterious shrine is located in the heart of Tokyo. The Diet Building and Prime Minister's Official Residence are within a few minutes of the shrine.

Thank you all for your support and much appreciated favs and positive comments!
