Griffy has very strong hind legs and good balance, and he's always willing to demonstrate his ability to walk upright. This was one of the first tricks he learned.

Horse and groom (?) I wish I knew what he is meant to be doing there.
Vessel of Attic manufacture - once carried a cup (hantharos) on its back for wine as part of a Dionysian rite, perhaps. The mule appears to be tumescent and a satyr with a cup kneels beneath the belly. c C5th BC.

Griffin was found near death in the Everglades in late July 2010. Chance would have it that he ended up in my home. He's a great dog! Weighing just 12 pounds, he's probably a Brussel's Griffon mix. We couldn't love him more.
Please consider rescues first.
Friday morning a bulldog dressed as a rainbow fish walked into a library full of woodchucks. Imaginations were running wild at Greenwood Elementary School as Drake University's Associate Director of Marketing, Erin Bell, and Griff read The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister to a group of young learners in the library. Greenwood was just one of the eight DMPS elementary schools on the visiting list for the bulldog tour. After the reading, each student had a chance to pet Griff on the way to their next class.

A triangle of dogs - all waiting expectantly for one of the tiny treats I had in my hand. Nobody wanted to hold their stays very long but at least I got one shot :) Griff (left) and Duke (right) belong to my best friend, Natalie, (you can see more of her dogs here). Today was the 1st time the dogs had met and as you can see everyone was very good - better than I think either of us sceptical humans had anticipated. Natalie lives near to my aunt's and we both see quite a bit of the other's dog(s) but we've haven't introduced them before because we were wary of how they'd get on. Trouble is, neither Barney, or Griff and Duke have been castrated... Griff and Barn can be a bit dominant with other entire males, while Duke gets intimidated easily. We didn't want a) fighting between the older two males, or b) Barney beating Duke up and making him more frightened of bigger dogs!!
However, we'd like to take all three out for walks together, so this afternoon we made the introductions! It all went very smoothly. We walked them next to each other on the lead first, not allowing them to face each other head on and then let them off once all three seemed OK. We kept a sharp eye on them, were quite strict to start with and apart from a tiny bit of growling from Barney (after Griff tried to hump him!!), everyone was fine. Natalie and I made it clear we wouldn't stand for humping, posturing of any kind, or retaliating and both dogs preceded to pretty much ignore one another, save for the odd side-long glance and the fact Griff had to mark where ever Barney did!! Duke gained confidence once he realised Barney wasn't out to squish him and while Barn wouldn't be drawn into a game, they got on quite well as running buddies.
Things went so well we were out for nearly 2 hours and even managed to play fetch (only stopping when Duke got way too over excited and ended up just running around like a loony, squeaking his head off!!). The fact we could play fetch at all impressed me as all three dogs value toys highly, which could obviously have the potential to cause problems - however I suppose as we had 3 balls in play much of the time, there wasn't masses of competition!! I'm so pleased there were no arguments and everyone had a nice time. It was good to see Barn out with other dogs - despite seeming to pay little attention to his fellow canines, he does gain confidence if he's out in a group & found it easier to cope with being in a new place today, than he often would. Looking forward to going out for more walks with all three of them in the future!!
