Printed by Coeur Noir of Brooklyn, NY.

How the system looked in July 2008. Buses ran more frequently, buses ran later, and more buses ran during Saturdays. Of course, the economic downturn that had more or less begun that year drastically reduced a main revenue source for the UTA—the sales tax.

(If you're interested in seeing a system map from December 2011, click here.)

One can't forget, however, the strides the UTA has made with its rail system. Back then, the system ran with lines between downtown, Sandy, and the University of Utah. Since then, extensions were built to Daybreak and West Valley, with extensions to Draper and the airport under construction. The FrontRunner extension to Provo is also wrapping up, with expected completion coming in December 2012.

Here's how routes ran in Salt Lake County (intercounty routes not included) in October 2007 (thanks to the Web Archive). Compare today's schedules to those of a few years back:

Taylor Studios designed and built the engaging exhibits at the Anita Purves Nature Center, for the Urbana Park District in Urbana, Illinois. The design of the nature center is inspired by Anita Purves, the local naturalist whom the center is named for. Taylor Studios transformed the center’s exhibit room into a multi-sensory interactive field station where the visitor becomes the scientist. Rustic themed exhibit furniture and props put the visitor at ease while custom interactives prompt visitors to solve problems concerning the natural world.

At a central work station loaded with artifacts and “discovery drawers,” visitors use magnifying equipment to play the part of the naturalist. Surrounding them on the walls are changeable graphics displayed via a grid system that allows the content to always be fresh and new.

"what advice would you give to a design student?"

He tweeted back -

ever wondered why we (graphic designers) take so much time doing stuff that look so obviously well placed?

that's why! of course i know a couple of folks that work brilliantly without grids and proportion systems, like victor (/magentaschwarz), but the fact that grids are a basic part of graphic design is undeniable.

fuck your artsy fartsy ad-like design.
